(Anonymous) 2012-10-03 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)He's incompetent, bad at his job and sorta stupid. He constantly gives bad personal advice. I liked one or two of his exchanges with Booth, but that's about it.
Though maybe he got better, I gave up on Bones after season six.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-04 06:01 am (UTC)(link)(I know this was several seasons ago, but) For example, the use of their case as the subject of his book, without their knowledge or consent, struck me as extremely unethical and a breach of the doctor-patient confidentiality contracts they should have had. It certainly would and should've ruined their ability to work with him to any effect, as trust is a major component in the effectiveness of any psychologist and Sweets broke that.

If he can get BRENNAN, of all people, convinced of his skills in a field she deems to be hocus pocus, then he's done something right at his job.
I dunno WHAT show you're watching, hon. But it ain't Bones.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-04 12:12 pm (UTC)(link)I haven't watched Bones lately, and my impression of Sweets is largely positive, but I think AYRT is giving their assessment of Sweets's abilities according to his actions they have observed, rather than according to in-universe evaluation. The intent of the canon is clearly that he is good at his job, and Brennan being convinced supports this. It does not necessarily mean that he's good by the standards of reality.
