Good troll. Best post.

But seriously, Hussie will never let it happen. You know he's not gonna give his baby up. If it happens, it'll be on his watch.

Though that wank would be pretty good too.

I don't know, I'd have to think that there would be some theoretical amount of money that would cause him to give it up. And just sit back on a tropical island for the rest of his life sipping Mai-Tais. And I wouldn't blame him for an instant, and I would laugh and laugh forever at the resulting wank.

You know what? I'm with OP, definitely want this to happen.

Nah, he'd buy himself some polo ponies.

I don't think they have the cash to meet that price though. I could be wrong. But I won't lose any sleep over it.

Also, what kijikun said. He'd spend his money on some weird, weird shit if it ever happened.

IDK... he is the creator of SBAHJ, so a massive, troll-tastic movie could be right up his alley.

I'm fairly sure Hussie once stated aaaages ago on his formspring that if someone offered him obscene amounts of money to make a terrible Hollywood-esque movie out of Homestuck, he'd take it. I can't find a link for it, but it's something I can see him doing. He'd just ignore it entirely and carry on making his stuff.

I kind of want there to be a movie even though I know it would be shitty, just because I LOVE seeing baffled mainstream reviews/articles/responses to the stuff I'm interested in. And imagine going to the cinema and seeing an advert for Homestuck on the big screen. I'd pass out. I want it just for that moment.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-08 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm mostly just scratching my head at the whole 'afraid it'll become mainstream' thing. Beyond the whole lol-hipster movement, is there a particular reason why people wouldn't want it to become even more popular (let's be honest, it's already obscenely popular) and easily accessible? I mean, a Homestuck animation series would be pretty awesome. It might actually help me understand it better than I already do.

Or is there a second connotation to 'mainstream' that I, in my ignorance, don't know?
insanenoodlyguy: (Default)

[personal profile] insanenoodlyguy 2012-10-08 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not mainstream. It's popular certainly, but hasn't broken through that way.

Most believe (and it is often true) that things have to fit a certain mold to be mainstream. To hold that mass appeal. So, in order to be mainstream, Homestuck would thus presumably have to be altered to be more palatable to the general public. And most fans (including myself) would say this would undoubtedly ruin the feel and the point of the thing, so much so that it'd be poisoned for us original fans.

Look at how many works have been tried to be made more "mainstream" in transistion that have failed . The first Judge Dredd movie. Street Fighter.

PRIEST. FOR FUCK'S SAKE, PRIEST.

Agree with [personal profile] insanenoodlyguy . When something goes mainstream, the original content of the work could(can?) be seen as unacceptable to mainstream society, forcing the author/director/producer/artist to change his or her style to the point of being unrecognizable, or to the point that it butchers the very thing that made the original work popular.

It blows my mind when people who are otherwise internet saavy still haven't heard of Homestuck. It's one thing to not like it or to not want to read it, but never having even heard of it? Even in passing?

Honestly, I wish it were more mainstream, if only so I wouldn't have to feel like the LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT HOMESTUCK person all the time. It's embarrassing, especially considering that I'm already past college age.

While a Disney-style Homestuck would certainly bring in delicious wank, I would say "no" to an official Homestuck series/movie. Sorry for being a defensive prick, but this is the first fandom besides Touhou that has active fan participation at the behest (or blessing?) of the author, and I really hope that this will stay this way.

I want this to happen too, even though it's probably never going to happen for the same reasons. It better get picked up by dreamworks, just for the trademark smirk.

I should really start reading Homestuck before this happens and it's taken off the net. I don't know why I keep putting it off.

I don't know, I think the Homestuck fandom would be more well-receiving to an awful movie adaption than what would be expected for the sheer hilarity of it all. While simultaneously raging over it. The fandom would basically eat itself, but it's doing that now anyway.

I've never heard of this article at all...perhaps your homestuck fandom friends can sleep peacefully

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
On the one hand, the wank WOULD be glorious. But I'm also one of those afraid of Homestuck getting more mainstream because, really, no one needs to be exposed to EVEN MORE of our ridiculous fandom. We get enough embarrassing exposure and hatedom as it is.

Mainstream as in it evolves beyond its web comic beginnings or mainstream as in everyone loves it excessively?

Because one of those things has already happened.
