obviously not, since this particular comm tends to skew mid- to late-twenties IIRC.

I think there's only an age limit if you impose one on yourself for some reason. Other than that you can have fandom fun forever! Enjoy :)

“Being a geek is all about being honest about what you enjoy and not being afraid to demonstrate that affection. It means never having to play it cool about how much you like something. It’s basically a license to proudly emote on a somewhat childish level rather than behave like a supposed adult. Being a geek is extremely liberating."

To be honest, I never understood this 'grow out of' thing that people worry about. You enjoy it, what's the big deal?

5o+, married with adult kids, and fannish for life.

Fandom is a cheap, legal hobby. If you enjoy it, do it.

exactly. I keep trying to tell my mom this-- she's never really been in fandom but she loves Marvel movies, even though she's embarrassed to admit it. Fuck that! I bought her a Loki t-shirt and convinced her to wear it proudly ;)

Ditto. I'm 40+ and I'm geekier than I was in my teens and 20's. I do almost everything you mentioned. I feel that it's because I'm older and just don't care what people think of me. *goes back to finishing costume for convention this weekend*

mid-late twenties is really, really young from where I'm standing.

People were enjoying writing fanfic, making fanart, talking about their favourite books, comics, shows, film etc, a long time before the internet, and a lot of those people are still fans.
Some of us were over thirty when we discovered 'online' fandom. (Yes, me). I'd been a fan of Tolkien's work since the late 80's but with only one or two people (family members) to discuss it with.
With one or two exceptions the people I talk to online are in their late twenties onward, and most older. I read their fic because it is maturely written, (and they're very talented authors). I've never felt I was too old to like something passionately, to devote time writing fic, or reading it or admiring good fanart. The online Tolkien fandom has given me more wonderful stories to read, lead to some terrific in-depth discussions, and introduced me to some remarkable equally geeky) people from all walks of life, and all parts of the world.

Also, as you get older, you care very little about what other people think, to be honest. And older geeks are great fun; never stuffy or dull. I am looking forward to being an octogenarian geek! \0/
