Asexuality is more or less the lack of sexual attraction towards /people/. While many asexuals have low libidos and are uncomfortable around sexual topics, many others are turned on by plenty of things and have sexual urges. They just don't necessarily feel attracted to people in the same way (though they can be attracted to them in other ways too, aesthetically for example). Also plenty of asexuals seek or are in committed relationships - whether these are sexual or not varies but they're pretty much identical to conventional romantic relationships for the most part.

There are certainly fakers and uncertain people out there but it's a bad idea to paint everyone with the same brush without understanding the orientation.

SA

I think sex-repulsed and sex-negative are both around but I don't think there's a single definite term that's caught on.

I think I've heard sex-negative before, but it doesn't sound like a good fit. Negative comes off as disproving, rather than just not having a personal interest in sex/not feeling horny ever.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
I thought sex-negative was more for people who doesn't like sex, doesn't like to hear about sex, doesn't like the concept of other people having sex... while sex-repulsed was for people who are personaly repulsed by sex and don't want it for themselves.

I think...genophobic? Not 100% sure but I know a guy whose ex-wife was legit this.

That's the fear of sex though.

I'm not scared of sex, I just don't like it.

Like pepperoni pizza. It's not my thing, but I'm not frightened by it.

Hm, I dunno. Probably just asexual then.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
No. Aseuxal is a lack of sexual desire towards other people - which means that there are a lot of asexuals who enjoy sex, in the same way that people can enjoy food even when they aren't actually hungry/need to eat.

The general term, at least in the asexual community for someone who doesn't enjoy sex is sex-repulsed.

[Sorry if that seems terse, but there's already enough confusion as to what asexuality is without mudding the waters by saying 'not enjoying sex is just asexual']

So Asexuals can have sex, and enjoy sex, but just not be sexually attracted to any gender at all?

DA

A gay man can physically have sex with a woman and get physical pleasure out of it. This doesn't mean he's attracted to women or that he'd go looking to do that again.

I'm a gay man.

Why would I want to have sex with a woman? I don't dislike women, but my sexual attraction is to men.

I'm confused... o_O

da

some gay people do it because they are still in the closet and can't come out for whatever reason. Or they want a biological kid. Many reasons.

Hm, sorry. Was fuzzy on it since a lot of people here seem to be saying asexuals don't actually want sex and just do it if their partner wants to. Think I'm getting it a bit more now reading these threads.
