Well... it is his most obvious asset. Because canon Derek's kinda a dickwad.

I have to admit, I've kind of wondered how bad Derek smells, considering his living conditions. Maybe that's why he's always sneaking into the boys locker room at the local high school. He's really just there to get a shower.

You're not the only one who has wondered that. I read a fic where he was washing his laundry in the stream and another one where he was making Stiles do it. Though I think the locker room idea is funnier.

My headcanon is that he doesn't actually live in his burned down home or the train station, he just prefers those places for his ~brooding~ and goes to an apartment at night, just letting everyone think he lives in his old house.

Oh Derek, how do think being responsible for 3 teenagers is going to make life easier for you?

Not even three easy going, live at home teenagers who wouldn't really rely much on him. No he had to pick ones with serious self-esteem and loneliness issues. And two of them realized that Derek was too fucked up to deal with and scrammed.

I think there was some they're lonely too. together we can be family pack going on in his head. Also picking the kids that were most vulnerable and therefore most likely to take him up on his offer... which is kind of messed up when you think about it.
