Please, please I'm begging you. Please explain asexuality.

Some of us are getting massively confused here, and don't want to seem willfuly ignorant, about the topic. :(

Help!

da

It's the lack of sexual attraction. Some asexuals do have sex for their partner. Some asexuals may masturbate since libido isn't necessarily connected to attraction to other people (it can be pretty mechanical actually).

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
So it's sexual activity, without sexual attraction.

Right?

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Can be, yes. Some asexuals also don't do any sexual activity at all. That's why the term nonsexual didn't catch on, since it alienated asexuals who may masturbate or asexuals who have sex within a partnership with a non-ace.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Nonsexual, now that sounds like a good term for those who have no interest in sex at all/don't get horny! Sex-negative and sex-repulsed sound too reactionary and disproving.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
sex-negative or sex-repulsed are for people who are actively disgusted or have negative feelings towards sex

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
it's bullshit is what it is

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
Why?

I'm a straight female. I have no desire to have sex with another female. But if someone, say, offered me a million dollars to have sex with another female, I'd probably do it. Would that mean that I had become a lesbian?

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, exactly.

Some asexuals even have really high libidos, and in some cases they identify as hypersexual, but they still can fall under the asexual umbrella so long as they aren't actually attracted to anyone in particular.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
...
... ...

Doesn't that mean that everyone who just hasn't found the right person is asexual? o.o

That's not an orientation, that's life.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
No. Generally a good indicator may be how/what you masturbate to. Like, do you think of people? Would you want to have sex with a person?

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
Again, why would this not mean you just haven't found the right person and therefore don't know what to fantasize about? I know plenty of people who said they just sort of masturbated until they found the person, at which point s/he entered their fantasies.

(as for me personally, if that wasn't the royal "you". Not a good person to ask. I'm all sorts of fucked up sexually and usually my fantasies involve shadowy grotesque figures raping me with stone dildos or tree branches. /tmi)

No. Stuff turns me on, I get aroused, but when I think about the actual sexual act (insertion, etc.) it's about as exciting as fantasizing about a lamp, or the color beige. Other people are not something I am attracted to. (To date, the only thing that always gets me going is a loud thunderstorm.) If I masturbate, I try not to thing about anything at all, because when a human body enters the picture, that's it. SHUT DOWN. Not even worth trying to finish.

I have a super high libido and I'm asexual.

It's annoying as fuck since it goes nowhere. Directed at nothing, I'm attracted to nothing. Very ugh.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
asexuality is literally just fucking not being sexually attracted to people of any gender. get that through your head. whether or not someone has sex has nothing to do with their orientation here. a lot of aces don't have sex. a few of them do.

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
By that definition, gray aces aren't really asexual because they can be sexually attracted to people, right?

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
And that would be why they're "gray" aces and not aces?

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
DA

I would just like to say that I find "ace" a rather silly term. I mean, calling a homosexual a "homo" is usually considered derogatory and calling a lesbian a "lezzy" is patronizing. So why is "ace" ok?

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Because asexuals shortened it, not other people?

So what does asexual mean in an enact term? As in what's it's general definition and also it's sub or extra definitions?

What are all the terms and labels used?

(frozen comment)

(Anonymous) 2012-10-09 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Exact not enact, sorry.
