What is your obscure fandom?

[personal profile] mekkio 2012-10-12 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
The one that makes you, "Where is everyone?"

Me? I have fallen in love with the indie vampire film, Midnight Son. I looked to see if there was any fandom online about it but it's too obscure. Dang it, I want fanart and fancomics. Even fanfic. The movie deserves love in the worst way.

Knight Rider. I just got the original series on DVD and I'm like halfway through and it's so cheesy and awesome and KITT is the best thing ever and Michael has a fetish for hugging people or something, I swear. /ramble

I haven't really gone looking for an active fandom, but last time I trawled through the interwebs for fic there wasn't anything recent. Unsurprising, but still sad.

KingKiller Chronicle (The Name of the Wind/The Wise Man's Fear)... they have a lot of fans and there was a very popular re-read on Tor webpage, but NO fandom whatsoever :c

I need Kvothe/Bast in my life (and Kvothe/Tempi)
pantswarrior: The characters of Vagrant Story don't understand pants. (vs)

Vagrant Story. I think I'm the only person who's been actually writing fic for it consistently for the last ten years. :/ There are still fans out there, just... not really producing anything. Though I got a brief discussion going on my journal the other day.

I would say The Tenth Kingdom (The Series). It's bad, but somehow it's actually entertaining *hides in shame*.

Last Exile, which is why I get obnoxious by talking about it all the freaking time. I regret nothing.

It's an anime a lot of people mention and like, but hardly anyone participates in the fandom. I feel so alone.

Edgar and Ellen. For that matter, where is the author? I've been waiting on the next book since I was in HS!

As well as The Mistmantle Chronicles.

Velvet Goldmine. It's kind of an old movie, but... Ewan McGregor, Christian Bale, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, canon gay pairings and fantastic EVERYTHING? Why so little love?!

Petite Princess Yucie/Puchi Puri Yuushi.

There should be piles of femslash fic, dammit.

One Piece. It's like...this shit is insanely popular, so WHY ISN'T THERE MORE FIC? Off of FF, because yes that site has quantity, but oh dear lord the quality makes me cry tears of rage.

Annnnd a much more valid complaint: Forgotten Realm. I mean, I understand it. I can't even read the source material any more, because holy shit, it's terribad, but it's my CHILDHOOD FANDOM. I read my first slash fic in that fandom! And it was horrible, and I found out that slash doesn't mean that people are fighting.

Final Fantasy Tactics/War of the Lions. :(

I can't even explain my love for it, but I love it lots. I really found the plot and characters riveting, and I thought Ramza's relationship with Delita would have produced pages upon pages of fic, but alas.

Summer Wars. It's a fun movie where the math geek saves the earth, it has an amazing ensemble cast of characters I'd love to be my extended family, and it's beautifully animated, too.

I even ship the main fandom ship (according to doujinshi...), but fic is few and far between. I'll be posting the first chapter of a crossover fic in this fandom soon, and I know I'm going to treasure every single hit I get. And maybe, if I'm really lucky and am nice to kittens, I'll get an alert. Or even a kudo! *has shiny, hopeful eyes*

Phantasy Star--the original Master System/Genesis series, not the Online/Universe MMOs.

There is a small but dedicated fandom that is pretty amazing--I'm constantly shocked at the obscure canon merchandise and source material people are regularly able to discover, translate, and make available on the web. And when discussions happen they are generally civil and entertaining. But I would love some more fanon stuff like fic and art (fic especially) and for a wider range of discussion; most of it is about game mechanics and canon inconsistencies. Phantasy Star is literally the only fandom where I wish there was more shipping discussion. <_<

Courtney Crumrin. It's an independent comic that I really love.

I think one reason there's not much fic is that there aren't any obvious pairings, slash or het. The other reason is that almost no one I talk to knows what it is. (Also there hasn't been new canon except for a couple of prequels, though I enjoyed them and they do have an obvious pairing.)

Crystal Chronicles. I'm so in love with that world and its tribes, yet the fandom's sporadic at best. But at least there's some badass fic.

Doppelganger/Warrior and Witch (retitled as Warrior/Witch but retaining the name the Doppelganger series) by Marie Brennan. Fantastic books, my favourite fantasy novels ever, yet so few people seem to have ever read them.

Moon Over Miami. Less because I want a fandom as such, more because I want someone to make the episodes available to download. I've been wanting to watch it again for about 18 years. It was probably shit, lbr.

Banana Fish, Wild Adapter, Tokyo Babylon.
I always fall for subtext rife, emotionally-intense m/m pairings, and then go on the internet looking for all the fic and discussion, and there hardly is any! But they're all understandably old series.

Weetzie Bat. There's one other prolific author who writes fic on ff.net aside from me, and it's embarrassing how little attention this series gets. All of the LJ comms I've found are pretty much dead and it sucks.

The Yakuza/Ryu Ga Gotoku video game series. It has NO English fandom despite being filled to the fuck with manly men that love to fight each other shirtless.

Nightwatch!

But then again, it's russian. You can't expect western people to bother with eastern fantasy when they have their inferior american fantasy to latch on. *bitter*
