nope-- this show wasn't even marketed as BL. It was presented as a sci-fi show... that's it. Which makes the gay angle even more impressive-- they didn't use it to sell the series to fangirls OR to warn those with more ~delicate~ sensibilities to stay away.

If it was "pandering" then you can bet they would have used the BL in their marketing to lure in the fangirls. But the fact is that a lot of people who hadn't read the novels were actually totally blindsided by the relationship (to the point where a LOT of people rage quit the show after the episode were Shion kissed Nezumi because "ew, yaoi". What the fuck ever).

I'm playing devil's advocate here, but you can't really "pander" with a straight couple. It's the "norm." Kinks are "pandered" to, as in the argument the ayrt is making.

Is it 'pandering to fangirls' when het romances are pimped in magazines?

Also way to pick one of the worst-looking examples. There are many that are far, far more implicative.

You WILL love it. It's just so wonderfully non-cliché and their love isn't pushed in your face, but still so very painfully, obviously THERE.

haha, that's actually one of the reasons I *didn't* like it. As sci-fi, it's kind of pathetic and really doesn't live up. As a dystopia, it's sort of nonsensical.
Frankly, the plot was mediocre. The only interesting part was the presentation of the gay couple.
