(Anonymous) 2012-10-13 09:38 am (UTC)(link)Also, I really loved that we had the Doctor visibly follow a companion through their whole life, really, without it being because they died tragically as a teenager. Also, I found the stuff about hating ending interesting, and his horror of knowing what happens, because I'd always assumed one of the first things he did with long-term companions was zip forwards to see when they died, and then never go near that time and place again, so he could visit them while they were alive and never visit their death.

Yeah. I mean, Angels Take Manhattan wasn't as epically heartbreaking as it was hyped to be, but it was interesting and bittersweet and made me tear up more times than I thought I would, considering my Ponds-investment is fairly low. And it was well-executed, I thought. Rewind to End of Time, when I seriously thought I would be crying buckets because I was so overinvested in Ten, and in reality I wound up chucking bits of popcorn at my screen and shouting "GET ON WITH IT" during the endless, self-indulgent goodbye sequence. Now THERE was an anticlimax.
