I totally agree. Howard is a spineless, amoral jerk who doesn't deserve Raj's friendship or Bernadette's love.

I think Raj is bi-curious*, so I like to imagine that he and Stuart start dating or that he meets another man who has mutual respect for him and they get into a relationship.

*I'm not a big fan of this term but it was the only one I could think of at the moment. It isn't accurate for Raj - he's hetero but could easily have strong friendship lead to a romantic/sexual relationship. In the case of Stuart, they don't canonically have a deep or strong enough friendship for that to happen yet. The beauty and power of fic means we can make it happen anyway.

You know, I toyes with the Raj/Stuart thing in my mind a bit, but I ended up thinking "but Stuart will probably do this because he's desperate for affection" and that left a bitter taste in my mouth.

In my head I usually go with the first (or was it second) season Stuart. I can't reconcile the guy we see now with who we first met.

I do sometimes like to imagine how Raj would handle it with the depressed, lonely Stuart that exists now. Raj is a good guy and he wouldn't be comfortable taking advantage. Keeping that in mind leads to big-bang length fic (that I will probably never write down) that leaves a lot more room for character exploration and can easily lead to them developing a deep true friendship. If it develops beyond that or not could go either way.

Am I the only one in this fandom not hating Howard? Yeah, at first I was a bit disgusted by his smarmy misogynist attitude, but he'd toned it down ever since and I don't find him more repulsive than the emotionally abusive Sheldon or the just as misogynist but shyer Raj. In general I probably wouldn't befriend any of the guys on this show if I were to meet people like them IRL.

He's actually my favourite after Bernadette and Leonard - Raj is a creepy misogynist, and Sheldon's an emotionally manipulative jerkass.

TBH, I only really watch the show for those three and Stuart. Oh, and Sheldon's mum, who's awesomesauce.

Yeah, Howard is my father when he was younger. And by is I mean *IS*. My dad is a Jewish engineer who lived with his mother until he got married in his thirties. He was also, taking into account all the pictures of strange women in his photo album and if what my grandmother has told me is true, a big old slut. And guess what? He grew out of it. He married the right girl, moved away from his Mom (but not too far, so that he could check on her and make sure she wasn't lonely), and became an absolutely devoted husband and father. Seriously, I don't know anyone with a better father than mine. What remains of his jackass younger days is a love of off-color jokes.

So long story short: I think Howard is no more near a repulsive creature than my daddy, and I believe he can be better than he was. People change and grow up.

yes they do but we are looking at Howard as he is now and as he is now he is a gross human being. Maybe her can grow up to be better but considering the writers for this tv show I don't think this will happen.

Also humans in the real world do not equal tv characters for the most part are stereotypes and caricatures.

At the end of last season -- specifically the bachelor party episode -- he showed some extreme growth. And right now even if he is still a bit creepy (and I mean, he's going nuts in outer space, no one could be at their best there), he's not nearly as bad as he used to be.

Yeaaaaaah, Howard's my second least-favorite character on that show, right behind Leonard (who I really, really, really, REALLY REALLY REALLY CANNOT FUCKING STAND). Although ... IDK, Raj has been giving him a run for his money with "watch me drink and be a misogynistic jackass!" which was his schtick for most of last season.

I was hoping Howard would be better this season, but he's already lied to his mother and his wife because he's too much of an effing wuss to just HAVE THE DAMN DISCUSSION, and that shit bothers me.

Have the people who are ragging on Howard seen his character develop since he met Bernadette?

Genuinely curious, I'm a verry casual bbt fan (i've seen maybe 20 eps in total, scattered about the seasons) and whilst I couldnt stand him to begin with, I've found him very sweet since they got together. Pretty sure there was one episode where he basically said he's become a changed person for her? Although I hold my hands up and admit I haven't seen enough of the show to know for sure if this development stuck or if he remained creepy and misogynistic.
