Re: Why is it bad to eat junk food?

junk food isn't bad, but it really just depends on the person. i eat meals in the gaming lab sometimes with all the other nerdatrons and they always get like an entire box of zebra cakes and doritos for dinner but are totally skinny. that being said though, that doesn't mean they're healthy; people who look thin on the outside aren't inherently healthy! clogged arteries can happen to people regardless of their metabolisms, for instance.

it's good that you're eating salad (hopefully not saturated with cheese or unhealthy dressings - i thought the salads i was eating were a better option than getting, say, french fries, but a lot of dressings are way worse calorie-wise). however, healthy foods don't "cancel out" unhealthy ones. if you eat a bunch of donuts or something and then eat some salad, your body is still using the donuts for nutrients and energy, and now it has to go through a salad too. but salads can be nutritious depending on what's in them, so if you're eating junk food without good nutritional value (vitamins and minerals and such), then salads and other healthier foods do help with that.

with all that said!! it's important to note that you can eat whatever you want, as long as you use those nutrients and burn off excess throughout the day. it's 100% okay to eat five cookies. if you work those calories and such off, then you're still maintaining your body's health - both inside and out.

this month i'm eating better than i generally do. it'll eventually be my lifestyle, but my original plan was to crash diet every few days until halloween to get in better shape for my costume. granted that's super unhealthy, so i opted out of crash dieting. instead i'm eating like 1300 calories a day, but i'm also not doing any extra exercise. i gain a bunch of weight every semester i'm at university, it's ridiculous. this never happens at home and i eat whatever i want when i'm at home! this summer i ate an entire pizza myself and didn't gain shit.

i'm pretty sure my main issue here at uni is that what i was eating in the past went way over 2,000 calories per day and wasn't working those off. when i'm at home i can go days without eating, but i'm hungry like every second here at uni. maybe because i'm more active here? idk. i'm going way off topic.

Unless you're like 4 feet tall, that's still crash dieting, and super unhealthy.

it's not inherently unhealthy, it depends entirely on your lifestyle. anything below around 1100-1200 calories is where it starts getting unhealthy because you're not getting enough calories for muscle growth, even if you aren't doing exercise regularly. i'm making sure i get the nutrients i need.

that being said though, i do know it's not the healthiest option. it's a temporary change for a couple of weeks before i establish a better routine i can maintain for the longterm.
