NaNoWriMo

(Anonymous) 2012-10-18 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I can't remember if there's been a thread for this recently, but I'll ask anyways: anyone doing NaNoWriMo this year? If so, what are you planning to write? Original or fandom-related?

I was considering it but I'm feeling behind on other important stuff so I think it might be tempting fate too much if I throw something else onto the pile...

Well, I'm doing it unofficially, and I won't be sending it in, but I'm supposed to write a novel and Dec 1 is my self-imposed deadline so... Yes?

I think I'll just go back onto the boards like last year. That was fun!

Technically! I've been writing every day anyway, and I'm just gonna not stop in November. I guess it doesn't really count if I don't have ONE story that I'm sticking to, but I think it's okay to start out with a million ideas and no direction, as long as you're writing. I mostly write origfic but sometimes I write bad fanfic for myself.

Thinking about it. I don't know.

I did Wrisomifu last november, and have continued it this entire year. I'm going to give Nanowrimo a shot, but Wrisomifu has a special place in my heart for really making me hold myself accountable for constantly producing, even if it's stream of consciousness crap.

So, the easier knock-off of Nanowrimo then. :)

I am! It is a Harry Potter fic and 50K words will be a good start on it. I'm "rebelling" technically because I'm not totally starting from scratch, but I've only written one and a half chapters almost a year ago of it so eh.

tbh the hardest part has been waiting for Nov. to start so I can start writing already. i've been working out details and tweaking my outline a bit, but i work a lot better making up shit as i go...and too much of that has just been making me need to write even more...

I am! For the... eighth year, I think. (Failed 2005, won the others, did two each in 2009 and 2011 and already did Camp NaNoWriMo this year - it'd be appalling if I DIDN'T go in it XD)

It's fic, a sequel to a modern AU I did in 2009. Legend of Zelda. The last one had a twist ending that people responded to in a... mixed way, and I still really like the setting I came up with, so I'm doing a bit of a retcon and continuing onwards with it.

Not sure. I always want to but then chicken out at the last minute and end up not writing much of anything. D:

i considered it since i came up with a story idea i have yet to begin on, so it'd be perfect for nanowrimo, but nanowrimo itself goes against my own method of writing and i don't know if i'll enjoy the process. i guess i'll go for it anyway, it's not like i have to commit if i end up not liking the progression or something. the idea i had in mind is original, to answer your question. it's also seasonal! and i expect it to be one of my shorter works, but i think it'll easily pass 50k words if i expand on it (as i should). i'm working on a story that's almost at 10k words already and it's not even 10% done.

i know we're not supposed to, but i think i'd have a more enjoyable time working on a piece i've already started for nanowrimo. i've been so fixated on that story recently that i've set aside everything else i've been working on, and i'm afraid i'll do that when november rolls around too.

Yep! I'm hopefully going to do a story I've had rattling around my head for a few months if I can just get my brain to focus on it long enough to work out the plot some more.

I'm doing it!

I will write the tragic story of a mechanical dog separated from her owner (an airship pirate captain) by dragon fire, and the epic quest to return to her side!

...or maybe I'll write the epic tale of a group of lesbian viking warriors ravaging the coast of Australia in the early 24th century.

OR I could write the horrific tale of a sleepwalking fourteen year old who kills in her sleep because her hands belong to Slenderman!

I <3 Nanowrimo.

I am! I'm probably going to continue my novel from last year since I reached 50,000 words but only made it about halfway through the story and never touched it again (which has happened to me every NaNo so far, I have bad habits). I enjoyed writing it though, so I'm just going to start from where I ended last year and hopefully get the story done this time :)

YES. I'm going to do the Terminator/Castle fusiony fic I mentioned in yesterday's General Comments.

I'm gonna try again, yeah. Original and speculative, probably, or that epic DMC fic I keep dreaming of and never starting.

Yep!
I'm writing a romance novel, because it's totally different from what I normally write, and I'm giving myself permission to fail.

Nanowrimo has never been very effective at encouraging me to write, because I'm not that fast of a writer and focusing on word count isn't very productive for me. So I'm out, though I'm open-minded about trying it again someday. I do enjoy the forums, though. And I'll be working on some fics, especially a big bang fic, so I do have writing goals for November.

Re: NaNoWriMo

(Anonymous) 2012-10-19 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
Only ever done it once, and I...failed miserably. That was years ago. I want to try it this year, something fandom related, and I'm tryyying to plan it out. Trying.

Re: NaNoWriMo

(Anonymous) 2012-10-19 11:02 am (UTC)(link)
This is possibly my first year. I have a thing that I want to write in (it's a noir AU involving an OC of mine and a friends that were created for a livejournal RP) and figure I might as well use NaNoWriMo as a motivator for actually DOING it. I'd like to turn into something more eventually - the friend who made the other character and I were talking maybe a webcomic. That's just a pipe dream for now, though.
