Henrietta, my eight year old black lab mix, died sometime in the night. She was in perfect health yesterday, wrestling with the puppy and greeting people at the door. Apparently she just had a heart attack in the middle of the night. Mom and dad woke up to her cold and stiff.

:((((((( I am so sorry. Labs are amazing dogs, and I have yet to meet another breed of dog that are as wonderful as a lab.

God, I'm so sorry! It's terrible when it's sudden like that, and you don't have any time to prepare or say goodbye. At least you can know she didn't suffer. *hugs*

I'm so sorry for your loss!
My Dad just lost his lab of 17 years, they're amazing animals. Reflect on the happy home you gave your dog, and all the wonderful years you spent together.

I'm sorry. The same thing happened to my cat a few years ago so I know how you feel. I wish I could do more than internet hugs but.../hugs?

And I sort of understand what you're going through, though for me my dog dying won't come as a surprise- I sort of have the opposite case. My 11 years and 6 month dog (half lab, half retriever), well she's really sick now, it looks like we're just making her comfortable at the moment until the end. Renal failure and that- while younger dogs can sometimes work out with a dietry change or so I hear, she's just... so much older and we've had to feed her with liquid stuff and sometimes carry her outside and inside to help her. So it's just making her confortable and giving her love until the end right now. :(

But even though it hurts to see her this way, because in a way she'll always be my puppy, at least I'll get to say goodbye, even if going to work is a worry even though someone is in the house always right now. But in the end I'm sure your dog felt loved no matter what and she didn't feel any pain. She sounds just from your short description that she was really happy- and in the end that's all we can do for our pets.

Someone else already mentioned it, and I know it's no consolation right now, but...it's best that she went peacefully and never had to suffer.

Oh man, I'm so sorry. :( It would just kill me if one of my pets died, particularly without warning. It does sound like she had a really peaceful death, though, so at least she was with you guys and wasn't in any pain when it happened. I know that probably doesn't help make you feel much better, though.
