I didn't think the doctor was canonically in love with River? He only married her to save the universe in a typical Moffat handwavey manner, right? Have I been watching it wrong?

But I agree with the part of your secret where it would be extremely weird/creepy if they were actually married (for serious). River was such a cool character before her character got assassinated. *sigh*

That's what I thought too except with the most recent episode (Angels Take Manhattan), Moffat kept bringing up their marriage and how they were married and how marriage is apparently the answer to everything. Even if it was meant to be tongue in cheek, I felt like it was treated as if it was in the same category as Amy/Rory's marriage.

I think this is just the only way he knows to write women. As whack love interests or mothers. It's kind of sad. And unfortunate for the current run of the Doctor Who series.

I miss Martha and Donna so much it hurts. Can we please have a companion like them again.

It's not the greatest, but it's still better than what hit the air. You're welcome.

Oh boy did I hate that marriage line...

Maybe it's just wishful thinking (because there are so many unpleasant issues with The Doctor and River's relationship that I can't be happy with it), but I always feel like their marriage is one-sided. Even when The Doctor is being tender with River it doesn't feel romantic to me.

An anon mentioned the circumstances of the marriage itself and I agree with how fucked up it was, but that feeling of The Doctor letting River have what she wants because he has no other choice never went away for me. I always feel that he's humoring her in their scenes together; he cares for her, but not in the same way she does for him. That said, he's already married to her so he just goes along with it. (I bet he would never ever ask for a divorce, out of fear of her actions.)

Maybe it's just me, but I always feel uncomfortable during their scenes together and I really wish they hadn't went there.

It's not just you...

Def not just you!

I think he loves River and he is definitely attracted to her, but whether or not he loves her more then any other companion is debatable to me.

But the marriage was very "if you stop destroying the universe, I'll marry you" which to me is horrible. It's like "Oh silly woman, I'll marry you and it'll solve all your problems!"

I agree. When they're just having adventures, they're okay hanging out and working together. But when it comes to their "relationship", I do NOT get the feeling the Doctor considers her any more than an annoyance or an obligation. For that matter, she seems annoyed by him a lot of the time, too. Or just obsessed. I don't get the impression that either of them loves the other in any real, meaningful sense.
