Yeah, in the Netherlands they do a thing called Serious Request in the six days leading up to Christmas. Three DJ's from one of our public radio networks go into a 'glass house' and fast for the duration of their stay, and broadcast radio 24 hours a day. People can request songs for donations. It usually brings in millions of euros (over 8.5 million last year). It's always really good, it seems like the whole country gets involved!

Yeah, I agree! It's been happening since 2004 I think, and since then it's basically become equivalent in my mind with the festive season. It wouldn't be the same without it, and I always request a couple of songs, without even caring if they get played.

I think a couple of countries in Europe do it too, definitely Belgium.

The easiest way to get Norwegians to give money is to make sure each county (and city)have the amount they give on a list, then make it public, no one wants to be beaten by another part of the country, which makes us give more.
