Probably solo in my opinion, but I never really saw it "grand true love" or even a "real marriage". The references to their marriage always seemed like more of an in-joke than anything else, and they seem to treat their relationship as a friendship - a messed up friendship, but a friendship all the same.

It's certainly not perfect (it's Moffat, what can I expect?), but I never got the impression Doctor/River was ever really canon, either.

Part of the plot/for the lulz/ect? I'm not commenting on motivations or anything, it's just that their relationship in canon has never struck me as particularly romantic at all.

I agree with this. I think there's certainly attraction and love, but I never got 'grand romance' out of it. More of a winky-wink flirtation with undercurrents of true affection.
