I'll give it a shot. I've always felt that 3rd person was "default," so the author must have chosen something else specifically for that story. They know the pitfalls of weak narration and have their shit together.

But if I find out they picked it because 1st person is "easy," and they write it like a flat self-insert, I'm getting the fuck out.
