In France we have a big annual Téléthon which lasts three days, with a nearly constant broadcast on television and charity events nation-wide. The money only goes to the same association (which fights muscular distrophy, and many orphan diseases) every year though, but it funds research and every day care.

We also have Sidaction and Solidays, which are much more low-key events but still major, they concentrate on fighting AIDS.
