Yes, this! Most fanfic writers don't understand the concept of 'voice' (or characterisation). First person needs to read as if the character is talking inside their own head. It needs to exude their personality. Otherwise it feels cardboard and dry.

This.

And I hate that people have to point out 'it can be good if done right!'. Well...duh? As opposed to it being bad because it's done wrong, which is the vast majority of the case in fanfiction. In original fiction, or fanfiction that covers a minor side character, first pov does carry better because the audience doesn't have a better grasp of their personality beforehand in comparison.

I don't enjoy first pov fanfiction by default just for the sheer nature of the beast. First (and particularly second) POV almost reads like I'm being brainwashed.

For example, consider the following line that may be considered completely IC for the character.

'I saw a hobo dead on the street, fresh blood pooling underneath the layers of grime and decay clinging to his body from years on the street. I gave him a passing kick and chuckled at his pained groans. Pathetic.'

And the whole time I will be thinking 'OH GOD, I'M A TERRIBLE PERSON.'
