Also, I don't think it's necessarily "impossible" or "anticlimactic" to go back to solo films after The Avengers. You'd just have to actually acknowledge that the Avengers and the invasion and everything actually happened and it was a huge fucking deal that changed the characters and their situations a lot, and take that into account with little details. Mention the other members. Reference events that took place offscreen. Make the team-up a central issue for villains and for the relationship between the hero and their supporting casts. Give excuses for why the other Avengers can't sail in and help the hero kick the villain's ass. Nowadays, with the internet and given how crossover-laden this franchise already is, it wouldn't be very confusing.
However, it's pretty much a guarantee that when the sequels start coming out, the fandom is going to collectively go "lol! sequels? what sequels?" and keep writing fic in the same vein they're writing it now, no matter how much their fanon gets jossed. Coulson was only the beginning! So, uh, you'll always have fanfic?

And also agreeing about the need to make reference to the events of Avengers and the other characters. I think they can manage that pretty easily, since they've done it well enough so far with off-hand references to Stark Industries (and Tony) and SHIELD and whatnot in the other movies.
