[The Walking Dead]

You will be pleased this season then. I think he has had more dialogue and screen time these two episodes than he did in all of Season 2.

Exactly! He's been great this season. It's a major improvement from Season 2 where they completely ignored his character. That said...uh...I keep thinking now that he actually has lines, he's going to die in some awful way. So...idk, you might be right OP.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-23 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
OP here

In some ways, I agree. He's been onscreen more and done some pretty awesome things (excellent work on his part grabbing that riot shield -- it's man's best friend in a zombie apocalypse), but I'm not sure it does a lot to advance his character. We still know next to nothing about him personally.

I think what he needs is a couple of specific interpersonal bonds, people to have conversations with. That's how TV writers tend to develop characters: by making them have conversations. Mostly when he talks, it's either in combat or in whole-group scenes. He doesn't have anyone to talk one-on-one with, like Glenn has Maggie, Daryl has Carol, etc. I hope that in the next couple of episodes, where it looks like the writers are introducing a new group of people in the Andrea-and-Michonne plotline, they'll bring in a character or two that T-Dog can have some conversations with.

Not who you replied to, but I'd like that too. It would be nice to hear more about his past or to see him bond with the others. You're right, even though he has more lines and screen-time, there hasn't been much character development for him thus far...

Still, this season has been a step in the right direction, so maybe it'll happen!

WTF is this person's face? It's like one of those huge round lawn funguses with eyes, ears, a nose, and a mouth attached.

He looks like a giant, creepy baby, so I can see why they wouldn't have him talk much. If he's supposed to be a creepy character, that probably adds to it.

Fungi

What is a lawn fungus? What are you talking about?

He looks like a regular dude.

One of these: http://www.rlrouse.com/giant-mushroom.html

I found one on the lawn of a church last September, that was maybe not as big as the one in the picture, but almost. I thought it was a plain white soccer ball until I went up to it.

DA

not really.. look how his head bulges out above the ears, his underbite (that is so severe his jaw is affected), the under-eye bags, the fatty tissue between the nose and cheeks.. dude isn't normal looking. you don't have to pretend every black person is a "regular dude" just because they're black and you don't want to seem racist.

tdog is supposed to be tyreese from the comics but isn't anything like him (aside from being black). i wish the real tyreese was in it :\

(Anonymous) 2012-10-23 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually I think Daryl is more of a Tyrese character. He is slowly becoming Rick's right hand man and the person to watch his back.

T-Dog is not supposed to be Tyrese. T-Dog is his own character, Tyrese is not part of the tv adaptation.

He looks almost exactly like my last supervisor at work, with the exception that my supervisor was very clearly hispanic. Their faces have the exact same shape. I've never seen someone from two different racial backgrounds look so similar.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-24 09:57 am (UTC)(link)
Well you know, Hispanic (not technically a race, usually mixed ethnicities) so I'm not very surprised by that since hispanics/latinos can look like pretty much anything depending on the location.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-23 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm scared too but I really want some development for him as well. I love T-Dog!
terabient: Anime-styled profile pic that is kinda, sorta like me (Default)

In season 2, I could never shake the feeling that the writers were aware that killing off the only black character in the main cast would be a bad idea, but they had no idea what to do with him as a character so they just had him hang around, occasionally saying something to remind everyone of his existence. (Though in some ways, he was better off than nearly every other character in the show. Season 2 had some awful character 'development.')

Season 3 is promising so far, though.

Man, no kidding. Yay, he's alive but - holy god - he's had about five lines of dialogue since season one? So fucked.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-24 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
I like T-Dog in part *because* he's so quiet and mysterious. No everyone has to babble on about every thought they have to be interesting.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-24 03:12 am (UTC)(link)
Poor guy doesn't even have a real name.

Isn't it Theodore Douglas?

Considering he's a TV-only character with very little dialogue, background, or anything beyond being African American and angry-- it's surprising that they didn't kill him off. Let's hope he gets some character and isn't subjected to death instantly because of it. :(
