...but...but the Tony/Pepper relationship has always been pretty low-key in the movies. They weren't even really a couple until the Avengers. IDK where you're getting "big OTP romance" from?

If there's a couple the movies tried to paint as a big OTP romance, it's Jane/Thor or Bruce/Betty,'cause those two are painted as being so ~speshul to the heroes that the heroes' motivations can be pretty much explained by the Power Of Love, which is annoying. I always liked that Pepper was never reduced to being a motivator for Tony's character development as though audiences were too dumb to wrap their mind around the idea of a hero doing things for the sake of something other than getting the girl. Pepper was more of an indicator of his development and newfound seriousness instead.

Same anon as before. I agree that the romance is relatively low-key in so far as it doesn't take up half the movie. However, the feeling I get from all their scenes together is that everyone involved in making these movies wants us to think that Tony and Pepper are ~supposed to be together~ and are just a perfect happy couple now. I don't know, maybe it's because I'm a comic fan and to me it's just OBVIOUS that Tony and Pepper should break up sooner or later, and the movies never gave me the impression that that was going to happen. The movies make them look like they're perfect and happy now and will live happily ever after. I know that comics =/= movie and I'm okay with changes, but somehow this one bothered me. I like Tony Stark as this guy who's seriously fucked up emotionally, even after getting 'better', and incapable of having a proper relationship.
