Wow, put down the coffee. I think you've had enough.

And I'll say it a million times. The guy is an airhead. It's a running joke how he isn't swift. Like the "Alison" password bit. "You still want him in your pack?" And when the writers are serious, they go with the threat of him having to repeat a grade because he was failing so many classes.

wow i wonder why he was failing classes

what could the reason could be

it's a mystery

He was failing before he turned.

The show.

Wait, is this Scott? Because that was completely a Scott moment.

It's in the show. How can you miss it? Rewatch the first couple of episodes. It shows him as barely passing student.

I think you missed something.

"Where. Are you getting. Your juice?"
"...My mom does all the grocery shopping."

"Maybe you caught a rabbit."
"And did what?"
"Ate it."
"Gross!!"

Scott's not a moron, but he's a bit of a ditz. It's not a bad thing, but it's part of his character. Personally, I think it's adorable.

Re: COMPLETELY SERIOUS QUESTIONS

(Anonymous) 2012-10-24 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
if someone asked me where am i getting my juice, i wouldn't know what they are talking about. and if someone gave me the i caught a rabbit line, i would have a similar reaction along the lines of 'what the fuck?'

idk guess i am a ditz. whatever.

Do you watch the show? In context, it was very clear that Jackson was asking about steroids. Also, yeah, I'd be horrified at the implication that I caught and devoured a rabbit, but yo, I'd understand the and devoured part just from the "Maybe you caught a rabbit" part. Scott sounded like he genuinely did not understand wtf he would've been doing with a rabbit. Ditz.

Re: COMPLETELY SERIOUS QUESTIONS

(Anonymous) 2012-10-24 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
yes. and no, i do not agree that it was clear in that context. but w/e.

I don't think it was completely clear Jackson was referring to steroids, either. It seemed more like the school bully just strides up to you and angrily starts asking about juice. You get confused, you know?

I don't think Scott's too dumb, just that he's had problems, and doesn't pick up on sarcasm/subtlety too well.

Re: COMPLETELY SERIOUS QUESTIONS

I don't think he's too dumb either, to be honest. Irony and subtlety is lost on him, true. But he is good judge of character. When he trusts someone, you know you could trust on his judgment as well.

[personal profile] pynapel 2012-10-25 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, Scott's street smarts are great. And in this show, that's what matters.

Re: COMPLETELY SERIOUS QUESTIONS

(Anonymous) 2012-10-24 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I know it's hard for you to admit due to that giant chip on your shoulder but other people do watch the show and base their feelings for a character on canon events, which may sometimes contradict your own. No one's stopping you from liking Scott, and if you do that's fine, but acting like a screaming toddler certainly won't help you get your points across, whatever they may be given how they've been bogged down in your continuing hissy fit.

Re: COMPLETELY SERIOUS QUESTIONS

(Anonymous) 2012-10-24 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
aw, tone policing. old familiar friend in these debates.

Re: COMPLETELY SERIOUS QUESTIONS

(Anonymous) 2012-10-25 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
NA

"Your interpretation of the show is opinion and not fact"!=tone policing

Stop coopting actual issues and SJ language because you're butthurt someone thinks your fave character is a ditz.

Re: COMPLETELY SERIOUS QUESTIONS

(Anonymous) 2012-10-25 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
comparing my comments to a "screaming toddler", that i'm having a "hissy fit" and saying that my points won't get across because of how i am speaking is tone policing. sorry that i am not going to sit here and pour some tea and speak sweetly to assholes.

Re: COMPLETELY SERIOUS QUESTIONS

(Anonymous) 2012-10-25 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
And if you want to ignore all the actual substantive criticism of the character you're stanning in order to keep saying people are oppressing a person of color, no skin off my nose. Sometimes Scott does dumb shit, and if you can't separate that from the racist shit people on tumblr say, then I think people are right to call you on that.

Re: COMPLETELY SERIOUS QUESTIONS

(Anonymous) 2012-10-25 04:00 am (UTC)(link)
Well, reading all of your posts conjures an image of a screaming toddler...

The sad thing is that if you weren't so over-the-top in your vitriol and could calmly and rationally discuss your feelings, I'd maybe have been on board with what you were saying.

I watch the show because I enjoy it. I like all the characters. I ship lots of ships. I think Scott is ridic adorable, and I don't think there's anything wrong with finding him kind of doofy. I can't enjoy a guy who's a bit of a ditz, but a genuinely good guy? Why? It's what makes him so much fun.

I don't think his grades define his character at all - but trying to sell him as someone who is 100% on the uptake all the time, is going to be a pretty hard sell to ANYONE WHO HAS WATCHED THE SHOW. The show plays up the fact that he's a bit of an airhead on purpose. That's half the fun of what has happened to him. He's got to get serious about it and focus on it and it's a struggle for him to do so sometimes. All of this serves to make him a very real, fallible and empathetic character. The fact that you can't get past a few people calling him dumb, is your issue. And probably something you need to get over before you burst a blood vessel or something...

omg, you precious thing. truth hurts, i guess.

scott is not the brightest penny around and that's obvious in the show. i'm not sure why you find it such an offence. most people here like scott just the way he is.
