Scott is not disabled. He is just an airhead. Sweet, loyal, lovable but not the shiniest penny in the piggy bank.

Wow, put down the coffee. I think you've had enough.

And I'll say it a million times. The guy is an airhead. It's a running joke how he isn't swift. Like the "Alison" password bit. "You still want him in your pack?" And when the writers are serious, they go with the threat of him having to repeat a grade because he was failing so many classes.

Re: COMPLETELY SERIOUS QUESTIONS

(Anonymous) 2012-10-24 11:36 pm (UTC)(link)
wow i wonder why he was failing classes

what could the reason could be

it's a mystery

The show.

Wait, is this Scott? Because that was completely a Scott moment.

"Where. Are you getting. Your juice?"
"...My mom does all the grocery shopping."

"Maybe you caught a rabbit."
"And did what?"
"Ate it."
"Gross!!"

Scott's not a moron, but he's a bit of a ditz. It's not a bad thing, but it's part of his character. Personally, I think it's adorable.

Re: COMPLETELY SERIOUS QUESTIONS

(Anonymous) 2012-10-24 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
if someone asked me where am i getting my juice, i wouldn't know what they are talking about. and if someone gave me the i caught a rabbit line, i would have a similar reaction along the lines of 'what the fuck?'

idk guess i am a ditz. whatever.

Re: COMPLETELY SERIOUS QUESTIONS

(Anonymous) 2012-10-24 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you watch the show? In context, it was very clear that Jackson was asking about steroids. Also, yeah, I'd be horrified at the implication that I caught and devoured a rabbit, but yo, I'd understand the and devoured part just from the "Maybe you caught a rabbit" part. Scott sounded like he genuinely did not understand wtf he would've been doing with a rabbit. Ditz.

I don't think Scott's too dumb, just that he's had problems, and doesn't pick up on sarcasm/subtlety too well.

[personal profile] mekkio 2012-10-24 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think he's too dumb either, to be honest. Irony and subtlety is lost on him, true. But he is good judge of character. When he trusts someone, you know you could trust on his judgment as well.

Re: COMPLETELY SERIOUS QUESTIONS

[personal profile] pynapel 2012-10-25 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, Scott's street smarts are great. And in this show, that's what matters.

Re: COMPLETELY SERIOUS QUESTIONS

(Anonymous) 2012-10-24 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I know it's hard for you to admit due to that giant chip on your shoulder but other people do watch the show and base their feelings for a character on canon events, which may sometimes contradict your own. No one's stopping you from liking Scott, and if you do that's fine, but acting like a screaming toddler certainly won't help you get your points across, whatever they may be given how they've been bogged down in your continuing hissy fit.

Re: COMPLETELY SERIOUS QUESTIONS

(Anonymous) 2012-10-24 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
aw, tone policing. old familiar friend in these debates.

Re: COMPLETELY SERIOUS QUESTIONS

(Anonymous) 2012-10-25 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
NA

"Your interpretation of the show is opinion and not fact"!=tone policing

Stop coopting actual issues and SJ language because you're butthurt someone thinks your fave character is a ditz.

Re: COMPLETELY SERIOUS QUESTIONS

(Anonymous) 2012-10-25 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
comparing my comments to a "screaming toddler", that i'm having a "hissy fit" and saying that my points won't get across because of how i am speaking is tone policing. sorry that i am not going to sit here and pour some tea and speak sweetly to assholes.

omg, you precious thing. truth hurts, i guess.

scott is not the brightest penny around and that's obvious in the show. i'm not sure why you find it such an offence. most people here like scott just the way he is.

I agreed. He has some of the best lol lines in the season - and it's nice to not have a SUPER SMART GENIUS as a main character. He is a very typical high school sophomore.

Plus, he fucked up Gerard in the season finale. He's not stupid - he's just a little bit of an airhead.

Re: COMPLETELY SERIOUS QUESTIONS

[personal profile] mekkio 2012-10-24 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
No, Scott isn't stupid at all. Because he is good judge of character. If Scott doesn't like someone, it's good idea not to like the person either because there is something wrong with them. But bookwise? Not Scott's strongest suit.

Re: COMPLETELY SERIOUS QUESTIONS

[personal profile] themperor 2012-10-24 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly. And I see nothing wrong with that. Not everyone is super human intelligent. And it's okay that they aren't. Plus he has some serious shit going on in his personal life.

Re: COMPLETELY SERIOUS QUESTIONS

(Anonymous) 2012-10-24 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know that I completely buy that. I don't exactly know what Derek's done to deserve Scott's treatment of him. I'm not saying Derek's an angel - he's not. And I don't agree with all the stuff he did this season. But I have a really hard time with what Scott did to him. After Derek risked his life to save Scott and earned the wrath of the Argents for it (and never even got a thank you that we saw), I don't understand why Scott is still all "Derek evil".

Re: COMPLETELY SERIOUS QUESTIONS

(Anonymous) 2012-10-24 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Derek stalks, harasses, and assaults Scott, and his friends. He tries to kill his friends on several occasions. Breaks into their houses. And is a general asshole who keeps information to himself and is not willing to work with others/do things any way but his way 99% of the time.

Scott's father was abusive toward him (this is stated in the On Fire book) so....I think it's pretty easy to see why he would not want to align himself with someone who is an abuser.

I don't hate Derek, and in fact I like the ship Derek/Scott. But there is really no excuse for how Derek acts toward him.

Re: COMPLETELY SERIOUS QUESTIONS

(Anonymous) 2012-10-25 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
Whoa, where are you getting Derek being an abuser from?

Re: COMPLETELY SERIOUS QUESTIONS

Derek is a problematic character. He has a loaded backstory which basically led to him getting his entire family killed - leading to the death of his sister by his uncle's hand. He then had to kill his uncle. And become alpha. All because he's a werewolf.

I think the show occasionally forgets what a heavy and traumatizing backstory this is.

And sometimes I think they use it as a driving force for Derek - which is why he uses poor means to get what he feels needs to be done. But they also use it as an excuse for him to be a dick. Which he honestly might have - but not to so many other people.

Note - I am not, in any way shape or form trying to woobify Derek or saying we need to forgive him for all of shit he did. I do think Scott has a good reason not to trust him.

That said- Derek also has a lot of serious issues that are driving him.
