Wow a lot of you are assholes. You want to leave permanent marks on someone fic to say that its bad and you don't like it? There already are those.

COMMENTS.

If you're going to 'disapprove' at least give a reason you jerks.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-25 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
The OP is most likely talking about removing a kudos they had previously given. Comments cannot be used in sorting, so they're not a huge benefit to future readers unless they read comments before fics, which not everyone does for varied reasons.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-25 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
Wait do people use kudos to determine if a fic is worth reading? I just read the summary and then click on it if it sounds like it's up my alley.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-25 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, I generally do. I do not read comments unless the author has an excessive amount.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-25 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
This.

Honestly, most comments for this secret sound too much like "When I don't like a fic, the whole world needs to know it sucks. Because I say so"

(Anonymous) 2012-10-25 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Which is the exact opposite of kudos, making it a highly relevant concept.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-25 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
And commenting is not option because...?

Oh, right, why waste our time with words when we could have the option of voting negatively against something we don't like, even if it's for subjective reasons, so other people avoid it.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-25 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
So why do we have kudos when people could just use their words to express their approval? Your agurment could work as well against kudos, and that's the real issue: that there is a way to give feedback that is slanted in a positive direction. Some people would like it to go the other way, and that's reasonable.

No it isn't, because fanfic is free-ass entertainment, so the feedback SHOULD default positive.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-25 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Because negative or even neutral comments are always received so well?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-25 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Exactly. Kudos are the easiest fucking thing to give, and you want to go through the effort to take one back because it didn't end exactly how you wanted it to? Ungrateful shits.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-25 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
How is this ungrateful at all? Your fic turned out crappy. That doesn't make me ungrateful for wanting to take back what is essentially a stamp saying "X likes this" (because A03 shows other people your kudos). It means you have inconsistent writing, and I don't want to give you my endorsement.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-25 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
But you liked it for some reason, even if that changed later.
If you were commenting instead, the comments would make clear your opinion up to the last part you read and liked... or disliked.

Maybe the bet solution is having kudos not for the whole story, but for each chapter. Then it would be obvious you endorsed the author only until that point of the story and not the rest.

Fanfiction writers by and large are a lot of petty, jealous, entitled assholes.

Writers in general, come to think of it.

Human beings, come to think of it.
