The poster I responded to didn't get "why anybody would want to" and the reasons for both shows and something like the extended Marvel multiverse are the same.

Replace the comment with any show that has 6/7+ seasons and branch-off series, then. SPN. Buffy/Angel. Star Trek and on. That is a lot of time

Yeah, it's definitely a lot of time, and it's understandable if someone who's come in late either hasn't or doesn't want to consume the entirety of extent canon.

But if someone hasn't seen any episodes at all, ever -- not even one -- then that makes absolutely no sense. How do they know they even like the show?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-29 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
They might not.

I've read fanfics I love for series I *hate* before. (Twilight - I'm looking at you.)

Sometimes you really like the premise, but hate the execution. If enough people feel the same way there can be a lot of "fix it" fics which will have the premise but "do it better".

But how can one hate the execution if one has never experienced it? That's the disconnect, here. Maybe this is just me, but I'm not going to declare that I dislike something if I've never read, watched, or heard even a part of it.

If you have specific tastes you can often get a good idea if you're going to like something or not.

I mean, surprises always happen, but you can get really, really good a that particular prediction.
