Don't forget the arms. I'm mostly in it for the arms.

I feel so left out in this, I don't really care about his arms or other assorted body parts, I find him attractive yes, but not like that.

Now on to why i loved him: I tend to feel more attached to minor characters who are great at what they do... And initially I didn't ship him with anyone really.

Indeed. As I've said, Hawkeye gave me the excuse to use the word "thews" again.

he's kind of a butterface but his body is amazing.

Jeremy Renner's hot arms got me into Hawkeye. Now I have his new series (so good! And purple! Everything's better when it's purple.) and have gone back to read older stuff. Just because hot arms got me into it, doesn't make me a bad fan.

I only wanted to watch him because he played a fascinating character in House. That doesn't mean I don't deserve to participate in fandom.

archery is always hot, but hawkeye's ass is nothing to write home about compared to some of the others in that movie

(Anonymous) 2012-11-03 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
True. RDJ's underused ass made me so sad, when his is clearly the most superior out of all of them.

I did like him, but I like him much more because of his interaction with Natasha, so I can see that.

[personal profile] elaminator 2012-11-03 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Well...for me he's competent as fuck, has a great ass and gorgeous arms, a badass costume, and goes well with Natasha. The bow and arrow thing is admittedly hot too, but what little we've seen of his personality from the movies is ~intriguing~ to me.

And I've never read any of Hawkeye's older comics but I have been reading the new series and it's indescribably awesome. TBH I don't look at them as the same person though.

Meh, for me it was the competency thing. Plus what little we saw of him in Thor, set him up as a smartass, throw in some intelligence/insightfulness (re: doors opening), and it was all set to go for me (and I didn't really ship him with anyone to start with). Although it doesn't help that I have a general tendency to get overly invested in minor characters anyway.

(But it's hard to remember what my reasons back then were though, because once I got into his comics... yeah, I was a goner.)

I am really really looking forward to when Jeremy Renner actually has a chance to properly have fun with Hawkeye though.

I see a bunch of people have shown up to say why they like him, so at least I'm not the only one here.

I pretty much do like him purely because of his fanon presence. :) I've read some awesome ship fics of Clint/other, and I like his personality, whether or not it has canon basis. So...you're right, at least about my reasons.

[personal profile] insanenoodlyguy 2012-11-03 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Well people very well should fucking read the comics!

Just saying. Start with the new #1. You don't need anything that isn't explained in comic. And the comic... is...

intrigueing: (no hard feelings point break)

[personal profile] intrigueing 2012-11-03 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I think they like him so much because a) since he doesn't have much screentime, all his scenes are him being really cool and badass, b) he's a bit of a blank slate they can project a lot of possible issues or personalities onto without anyone calling "OOC!!" and c) he went through absolute hell in the movie and didn't really have time to process or deal with it onscreen, which is huge fodder for hurt/comfort and angst and stuff.

So I would have fanned Hawkeye for a myriad of reasons anyway but I'll be completely honest... Renner's Renneriness definitely didn't hurt.

But I fan his ass as its own entity so that has nothing to do with it.

I just said to someone yesterday that I fell for him from the instant we saw his hands in Thor. The way he's told they need someone with a gun, and all we see are a pair of gloved hands hesitating over a wallfull of guns...and then deliberately skipping over them all to disobey and take a bow instead. I've never seen a pair of hands so clearly say, "Fuckit, I'm doin' what I know is right." His character just boiled off the screen in that moment and in those few lines of his and he stole my heart away. So, yeah: guy with a bow, no question. Shipping is just a side effect of wanting him paired with everyone because he's my favorite.

Well. Hm. Yeah, shipping was probably part of it, but I didn't get the Renner love until I actually saw him in action. He...he doesn't photograph well, I think. But when he's moving, talking...it's entrancing.

He puts a good amount of personality into the role for the little time that he has. He's an incredibly competent marksman who sees things other people don't, and he's got just the right touch of irony in his drawl to make me think of Malcolm Reynolds.

But he is also pretty. And tiny. And he's got a bow, which is just cool.

I ship him with everyone because he's my favorite. He's competent, and adorable. Most of all, he was completely unmade and he picked himself up (with an assist from Natasha) and saved the world. Lack of screen time notwithstanding, he's a big damn hero.

Also, Jeremy Renner is Jeremy Renner. I've had a thing for him since Pink's Trouble video.

I'd guess it's a little from Column A, a little from Column B. It's pretty darn fantastic that MCU fans want to pick up the new series as a result, though.

Clint's been my fav Avenger for awhile, the only reason I even bought some Avengers comics. I was thrilled to see him in the movie and a bit sad that more of his personality/background wasn't in it.

Though I do love the movieverse for all its shippping potential.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-04 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
literally who gives a shit why other people like a character

why do we have to be fandom police and interrogate everyone's motives

either like it or don't, quit whining about how other people aren't you.
