(Anonymous) 2012-11-03 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)Tbh, I used to roll my eyes at the whole back and forth fandom debate about woobifying Loki (and other characters like him.) Until I accidentally stumbled upon some real life murderer woobification/glorification and saw some of the same language used. I still think "let the teenage girls have their fun, they'll grow out of it", but I get why justifying mass murder (even fictional) might be upsetting to some people.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-03 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)Yes, this is why a lot of Draco In Leather Pants-ing fangirls piss me off so much. I don't think they'd seriously feel that way about real people they know or anything, but the implications they voice, however ignorantly, in "oh but it doesn't matter that he killed all those people, because he's having such a sad identity crisis/so many daddy issues/he doesn't feel like he belongs" ARE rage-inducing because that shit happens IRL and no, I would not give two fucks if a guy who killed loads of people is having some ~personal crisis~ or not. The people are still dead because he thought his problems were more important than their lives, and that phenomenon is not fictional.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-03 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)I know they don't think they're real, but that's what makes it so much more repugnant -- trivializing something they know is wrong just because they're lazy or don't care.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-03 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)To use your example, there is nothing wrong with someone having a rape fantasy. But if they're talking about a fictional rape scene, blaming the woman or saying that she must have enjoyed it... well maybe that doesn't reflect how they would feel about a RL woman being raped. But I can definitely see why people would see that as not an isolated fandom comment and would get upset.
