LMAO @ Sam & Cas fighting over Dean, oh man. I'm totally the same way; I have my faves but I'm very live & let live and I have very little patience for hardcore stans who act like they're the only ones with taste. Hell, as I generally prefer smaller fandoms to huge ones, it's actually a bit of a relief when everyone doesn't love what I love. And UGH, Sherlock and Elementary fandoms. Both equally the worst.

Anyway, I like to think that lots of the righteous fandom rage expressed on tumblr or say, anon memes is mostly hyperbole or a very short-lived emotional reaction that is forgotten once people close their browser window. I can't imagine anyone being THAT upset all the time, you know? And sometimes it's fun to rant over the internet.

The only thing that weirds me out is when there's faux-concern. As in "If you seriously think this is okay, and you're young, it could IRREVOCABLY WARP YOUR MIND AND YOU WILL BECOME/MARRY A SERIAL KILLER!!!11!!" Like wow, do you really think teenagers are that incapable of separating fiction from reality?

This is hands down one of my biggest issues with fandom. I really could care less about ship wars and adaptation wars and all that shit. I just want to discuss stuff and write fic because it's fun. Guess what, fandom? I can enjoy a character like Loki even if he does have batshit insane fangirls. I stay away from them and make my own fun. Those teenage girls will outgrow that woobifying---a lot of us have been there and we cringe at it now (my personal example is The Phantom of the Opera, and yes, it's Old Shame for me now). Just learn to ignore the crazies. It is possible. Sheesh.

Aye, this. After spending some time in fandom (not even that much time, tbh) I just grew accustomed to all sorts of wild kinks and crackpairings. Honestly? I can't even seem to realise why somebody, being a fandom!person, would weird/freak out upon coming across a bloody Snape/Sorting Hat pairing (that's actually a thing).
I don't give a damn anymore. I'm just having fun and all the pairings, kinks and plots are OK unless they contain some horrible misogynist/racist crap.

Sometimes I feel this way too...but sometimes I don't, so I have a hard time making too much fun of people in other fandoms being melodramatic about fandom. Unless it's about shipping. For me, shipping wank is just plain hilarious, although the character!wank that can spin off from it can be really snidely ugly sometimes.

I totally agree with this secret. I don't get why some fans feel the need to piss on other fans' parades. You don't like a certain character/pairing/characterization/fanwork type? Good for you. Just ignore the stuff you don't like and stay in the corner of fandom you enjoy the most.

I understand that some fans can be annoying as hell, but the fans who feel the need to vent their spleen about how other people enjoy fictional stories are much, much worse. At least the first group is having fun. The second group are arrogant snots.

I agree for the most part - shipping wars are so ridiculous to me, or arguing about which character is "better" - but there are times where RL issues slip in. I'm a big Sherlock fan, and I've never watched Elementary, but I had to blacklist a lot of Sherlock stuff because of some really upsetting racism and sexism. I don't care if people ship fucked up things (I certainly do) but if I see post justifying abusive behavior, I feel obligated to comment. People do get too worked up over stupid fandom shit and should often mind their own business and have their own fun, but it's not completely isolated from serious issues.

Tbh, I used to roll my eyes at the whole back and forth fandom debate about woobifying Loki (and other characters like him.) Until I accidentally stumbled upon some real life murderer woobification/glorification and saw some of the same language used. I still think "let the teenage girls have their fun, they'll grow out of it", but I get why justifying mass murder (even fictional) might be upsetting to some people.
