Random story time: one time some creeper from my college sent me a facebook message saying I look like Shelley Duvall (which was supposed to be a compliment...?) It was so random and I actually don't look ANYTHING like her, but now even though I also find her really unattractive, I can't help but to get kind of offended whenever people insult her, since we're supposedly twins and whatnot. :p

I've always been very distracted by her while watching the Shining, I have to admit. It IS terrible, but the mix of bad 70's fashion and her unfortunate face... took me out of the movie constantly.

I laughed out loud at this. It was the juxtaposition of the secret with "well, that's just not nice." It tickled me something fierce.

I don't know what this says about me, or if it says anything at all.

Okay, so.

I don't find her frightening. But I find her displeasing to look at. Unfortunately, this is inextricably linked to her character in The Shining. In that movie, she is this cringing, mousy mess. It's always bothered me. I've always been like, "but what did he see in her before he went crazy?"

And then the logical side of me kicks in, and I'm like, "this is the portrait of an abused woman." He chose her because she was mousy, and his treatment of her made her a cringing mess. So then I feel bad, because, wtf, I'm disliking a woman who's been abused because she's acting like she's been abused. And then, on top of that, I'm taking her actions and marrying them to her physical features. Is there not something wrong with that?

I reassure myself with the fact that I don't sympathize at all with Jack Torrance. He's a monster, and you can tell he's a monster from the very beginning. The insanity was always lurking just beneath the surface. At the same time, however, my feelings about Wendy are kind of fucked up.

She is a bit creepy-looking. I have a similar reaction to Katherine Boecher (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0091136/mediaindex). When the camera catches her from certain angles her face just looks like it's not put together quite right, somehow.

I definitely seem to be in the minority, but I've always found her unconventionally beautiful. Then again, I was raised on quite a bit of Faerie Tale Theatre as a youngster. Maybe it's what I was first exposed to. I also found her striking in '3 Women'.

I think she's a very talented actress but her career didn't last long because of her looks. unfortunate. especially in light of all the women who can't act and get roles handed to them on a silver platter just because of their looks, cough cough oliviawilde cough.
