And I hated pepperony waaaaay back before I knew who Steve Rogers was. Second movie disappointed me and screwed up the story AND Tony's character, not to mention Pepper's (seriously? you're amazing, girl! get away from him as soon as you can!) in my eyes. I had no idea what Marvel was and what's MCU. Then I discovered the comics, and after a year of both bronze age and modern stuff I finally found stony, fell in love with this ship and it's been in top ten of my OTPs since then. The Avengers movie was cool, not what I expected at all, but no matter what the verse is, they're still a marvel for me. Wow you guys. /end rant

Dunno, felt like sharing this. Thank God and also Jesus pepperony's actually nothing like the movie version of them.

...not bashing your choice of ship, but your reasoning is ridiculous.

I guess these concepts of "character development" and "learning from mistakes" is somewhat lost on you. Avengers!Tony and Avengers!Pepper/Tony is waaaaaaaaayyyyy beyond the mess that was IM2!Tony and IM2!Pepper/Tony. In the Avengers, Pepper is totally in control and her own person and is dictating the terms of the relationship and Tony is quite aware of it and glad of it and 100X more mellow and self-aware than he used to be.

IM2 was his lowest point, darkest hour, that stage in life that people look back on and go "hot damn, what a nightmare that was", and the Avengers makes it quite clear he's clawed back out of that hole and is a far better person for having gone through it (witness his ability to be self-deprecating, his slightly-increased openness to cooperation, his (comparative) maturity, and his empathy towards Bruce, which I'm pretty sure is closely related to his meltdown in IM2 and understanding what it's like to have demons).

I mean, if you still don't like Pepper/Tony it's not a big deal (personally, my OTP is Bruce/Tony, and I'm pretty much neutral towards Pepper/Tony) but don't pretend Tony-as-of-the-end-of-the-Avengers is currently anything like IM2!Tony, or that his relationship with Pepper is anything like it was in IM2. That's a major disservice to and misunderstand of the character, regardless of what you ship.

My reasoning is just fine. 'Main character hooking up with the only girl in the series' trope is enough, frankly speaking.

> misunderstand of the character, regardless of what you ship
If one doesn't like something, it doesn't mean they misunderstand it.

And, as I said, IM2 ruined MCU!Tony for me. When I was walking out of the cinema, I was sure I'll never be interested in this character again. Good times.

nayrt

Nope. That trope is good enough for you not to be interested in the pairing, but it's not remotely a reason to bash the ship or pretend it didn't go through massive character development.

As for your second point, if you don't like the character, that's fine. If it really ruined the character for you despite all subsequent character development, fine. But don't come into fandom trying to criticize people who LIKE MCU-Tony for liking that character and pretending that they're doing it wrong or don't understand what they're talking about, because if IM2 ruined Tony for you, that's your opinion, and you have the right to have an opinon, but MCU-Tony =/= IM2-Tony and the vast majority of people don't share your opinion or your juvenile reasoning for it. At all. Check out the amount of wild fangirling people did over Tony after the Avengers came out opposed to their opinion of him pre-Avengers, if you need proof.

If you think IM2 "screwed up Tony's character", how can he be part of your OTP?

Or do you include him just because you like Steve but dealing with a give-and-take relationship between two actual human beings is too difficult, so you want to give Steve a whore he can fuck and use and treat however he likes without coming off as unlikable to you because you don't care about Tony at all?

Everything can be made right in fanfiction. And I love 616!Tony and his other comic book versions, so I just look for the stories where authors know him better than just from the movies.

Also fuck you for a ridiculously stupid comment. It's like you created a whole new universe yourself and got angry at it.

If you love 616!Tony and not movie!Tony, why are you complaining about fics about movie!Tony? Having movie!Tony act like 616!Tony would be totally OOC.
