Re: Your First Period (Possibly TMI)
It was a huge deal because of how and where I grew up because it mean I had to start marriage counseling and had to be sequestered when menstruating + 7 days afterwards unless wearing gloves, long sleeves, a mask and was carrying a mat to sit on. Then once done I had to do a nasty 24 hour cleanse with fasting and praying for forgiveness before rejoining the population.
You can see why I lied.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-08 06:12 am (UTC)(link)tbf, certain fringe sects of mormonism get pretty insane. I haven't heard of them isolating women because of their period, but it wouldn't shock me

You don't have to still do that do you?
Kitty gif to make you smile?
Re: Your First Period (Possibly TMI)
On the bright side I still enjoy how relatively hassle free my period is now. :D
Plus because of my status as a personal aide, and because I was unmarried, I had my own room and there were few other women and girls assigned to same house (that was one of the rare ones with heating even!) I was so I spent most of my menstruations alone which made it easier to catch up on all kinds of illicit activities. So I definitely didn't have it as bad off as I could have.
Thanks for the kitty .gif!
Re: Your First Period (Possibly TMI)
Oh, well that's good.
You're welcome. I'm just happy you're happy.

Re: Your First Period (Possibly TMI)
(Anonymous) 2012-11-08 05:11 am (UTC)(link)Forgiveness for what?
Also, your period + 7 days is a long time to be sequestered. My period usually hangs around about 7 days, so that's 14 days total and if I had a 28-day cycle (mine is 33 days) that would be half my life!
Re: Your First Period (Possibly TMI)
I also have week long periods. Summers under all of that garb were almost unbearable sometimes.
Re: Your First Period (Possibly TMI)
(Anonymous) 2012-11-08 05:25 am (UTC)(link)This shouldn't be happening in America.
Re: Your First Period (Possibly TMI)
I know where you're coming from but shitty things happen everywhere. An attitude that it doesn't happen in America is kinda what lets it happen?
Re: Your First Period (Possibly TMI)
(Anonymous) 2012-11-08 07:05 am (UTC)(link)The idea of mentruation reflecting women being dirty is usually found in societies without access to modern education. America has one of the best education systems in the world, and this is why I was surprised this kind of thinking exists in America.
I didn't say it doesn't happen in America. I said it shouldn't happen. Doesn't and shouldn't don't mean the same thing.
Re: Your First Period (Possibly TMI)
I got your intent but it's just a weird way of putting it.
I'll admit I'm very likely oversensitive because I have been and have worked with people who start off badly in life and generally are ignored by society and that ignorance is perpetuated by the attitude that "bad things don't really happen in our community".
I understand that you didn't use the word "doesn't" but just saying that it "shouldn't happen in America" implies America is some separate beast where things are naturally different and it's abnormal for some people to be assholes when they can get away with it.
