OP - Oh god. I read 50 Shades of Grey and it was more just plain bad and frustrating than hilariously bad for me, so I didn't enjoy it at all and ended up skimming the last 100 pages or so. Plus the sex scenes were really boring. Not the right brand of badness, lol.

Lmao, right? Some of the lines are truly amazing - I still like to yell "MY MOTHER WAS A CRACK WHORE!" at my friends - but the book over all was not nearly bad enough to be enjoyable. Because passion, dude. All those "well written" fics were written, at least partially, with an eye to peer pressure and what's acceptable by the fandom. What's "good". What is normal. What did my English teacher tell me about symbolism. All the tropes are nice and safe and common and popular. And boring.

You go out into the wilds of the kinkmeme and you'll find people saying "WTF. This is totally ridiculous, scandalous, and spits in the eye of decency and good taste. I'm totally going to hell for even thinking this. Let's write puppy!"

And it's fun. It's different. Okay, a lot of it is nigh unreadable, but the stuff that is readable is the pure distilled essence of uninhibited imagination. And that's totally refreshing.
