I admit to have been out of the anime circle for a bit lately, but as far as I remember, Shounen Ai refers to boy love, while Yaoi means there is also sex. And yes, people do refer to Nakamura Shungiku's works as Shounen Ai, seing as they focus on love between two men.

And what better Shounen Ai series is there out there?

Kaze to Ki No Uta is a classic. It's an OVA and 17-volume manga series.

I admit I haven't seen it, but- it's a one 1 part OVA based on a 17 volume manga. Can you really compare a snippet of a long story with a full series?

(Anonymous) 2012-11-12 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
Just to clarify, are you saying that 17 volumes of manga is not a full series?

(Anonymous) 2012-11-12 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
I said that an OVA of one episode based on 17 volumes is not a full series. I know there are better mangas than Gravitation, but I still hold that as far as animes go, there hasn't been a better one made yet.

Ah, you were talking about anime series, I misunderstood. Have you watched Antique Bakery? I enjoyed it more than Gravitation.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-12 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
I did. I watched one episode and couldn't take more. I thought it was intensly boring and that the animation looked like cardboard pieces moving over bad CGI backgrounds.

I thought it was really cute :c

How about Yami no Matsuei? It's another favorite.

That one I didn't see.

Ooh, you should watch it! There's shinigami and plotlines and a very slow-building romance and every one in a while some plain old silliness to lighten things up.

ANTIQUE BAKERY. EVERYONE SHOULD READ ANTIQUE BAKERY.

*cough* Sorry, got a bit carried away there. I actually wouldn't recommend the anime, but the Korean live action movie adaptation is awesome and the manga is amazing. The characters are all really quirky and likeable, there's tons of UST, and it has food porn. Glorious, glorious food porn. Don't read it while hungry.

The word that's used for all works of this type, whether or not they have sex, is BL. Yaoi is for fanworks (doujinshi include iirc). Shounen ai is not used in Japan as it has pedophilic implications, and the distinction "yaoi has sex, shounen ai doesn't" is only used on the English language side of fandom.
