I have to disagree with you, anon. I mean, I don't really think Dirk and Jake's characters have been particularly deeply developed yet, but what we do know of them seems pretty distinct from John and Dave.

i mean, even ignoring the fact that dirk/jake isn't canon yet-- i mean, the fact that they're prancing around with matching tattoos is a big hint in that direction, but it's not exactly rose/kanaya yet, i'm really confused about why you think that dirk and jake and caricatures of dave and john

I really question how much you read the comic if you can't tell the difference between the Alpha and Beta boys and believe that DirkJake is canon.

Additionally, the JohnDave shippers are... still shipping JohnDave in peace! Some ship DirkJake, some don't. I've never seen a single one of them complain that they're being pandered to.

It sounds like you're judging the canon based on the fandom's screeching rather than what Hussie's actually written. And that's sad, because what Hussie's written is actually a very positive portrayal of a potential gay relationship where the characters are more than stereotypes.

If you don't like the pairing, that's fine! But don't devalue it by calling it pandering when it clearly isn't.

I thought that Gamzee macking on Tavros was the only nod/fanservice to a semi-popular ship in fandom

I was going to comment on how I thought the same thing, OP, but apparently we were both wrong? ah well

tbh i blame a lot of this on dirk/jake fandom too which maybe i should have made clear..literally every dirk/jake fic i've read after it was recced to me doesn't read like "dirk is rose with a dick" or anything close to their canon selves, it literally reads like name swapped john/dave.

Man, remember when Johnkat was the one ship everyone whined about like little babies and nobody cared about Johndave or Dirkjake (In the latter's case because they weren't even introduced yet) because they were too busy going on about erasing John's heterosexuality or something
