I can understand that you feel like that emotionally, but rationally: every single horrible person who lived was a baby at some point.

Also, kids aren't innocent. They're selfish, sadistic little bastards who like pulling wings off flies and are totally self-absorbed.

Personally, I actually find it interesting: how do you go from a "default" non-fucked up child to killer, sociopath, pathological con artist etc etc. I generally really enjoy finding out about the journey that made people into what they are.

Kids are often that way because they are treated poorly; not socialized enough, not given enough attention by adults, treated as if they are far more stupid and young than they really are, etc. Not only that, but I think characterizing children as selfish isn't correct: they are often not developed enough to understand selflessness or have a strong idea of morality.

When someone seems to dislike children because they aren't pleasant like most adults, I just tell them to think of kids as mentally handicapped people. They can't help being the way they are. It's just how they're wired.

In any case, most children I have met are extremely sensitive to pain or violence. The vicious ones are the ones who have been desensitized by having too much of it in their life.
