It IS kind of weird of you. Can't you just wish to see news about their support (which they seem to be showing her) instead of wanting to read a make-believe version that only makes you feel better?

As I said to visp above you, I'm not sure at all where you're getting "feeling better" nonsense out of this secret? I'd like the RPF because it's a good story (that I hope is also a reality for AW), not because it would make me "feel better" about some imaginary thing you've dreamed up for me.

I know you said you hate rpf, but you jumped right into their mentality of "it's in the tabloids therefore I own it/them". That it's a 'good story' doesn't mean it's right that you want someone to take the girl herself and treat her as a character to play out some hurt/comfort fantasy.

Anything in this world provides material for fantasy and you *do* own your fantasies...

How would you feel if people starting treating you as an inanimate object, present only to entertain them, rather than as a real human being?

Do you think everyone who enjoys RPF is a shitty person? Or do you just believe you get to decide which topics and people are up for grabs? What do you think of fiction that is based on specific true stories then? Seriously, someone's a shitty person in your eyes because they have an emotional fantasy?

Here's my problem with what you've been saying and the conjectures you've been making.

I say "I would like to read a story that is an idealized version of her getting support from parental-figure colleagues." You apparently take that to mean my heart is breaking for her, and I must have fic to "make myself feel better."

That is not true. But that does not mean that I don't for her, that I don't want her to have support, that I don't wish the best for her or that I don't realize she's a really real person who exists for more than my amusement.

And by the way? Fic? Does not erase Ariel Winter's situation, so I'm not at all sure what about it is supposed to be magical feel-bettery. If anything is grounds for calling out shittiness, I'd think it's that, which is only a fraction of a step away from "my fanfic makes me an activist!"
