[Ariel Winter/Modern Family]

(Anonymous) 2012-11-14 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
that doesn't sound gross to me anon... it just sounds like you really want ariel winter to be happy, even if it's only in fiction.

and i think that's something a lot of other people probably feel too.

Yeah, that's what I took from this. Wanting loving, supportive relationships for people isn't a bad thing. Her TV family is a pretty easy to imagine surrogate.

Perhaps I'm slow today, I don't understand this secret...

(Anonymous) 2012-11-14 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
The mom says she's lying, and wants to live with the sister because there she won't have to do any chores and can have sex with her 18yo boyfriend. And I've met entitled, brat-tastic kids who WOULD lie about something like that and for those reasons, so I'm not sure how to feel about the situation.

But I feel for the kid if the allegations are true and I feel for the mom if they're not. The mom's been getting a lot of flack both for "Why would you let your 14yo date an 18yo?" and for being sex negative, 1. but there comes a point where you can't force your kids to do/not do something, short of locking them up (which, illegal) and 2. 14 is too young to be having sex. There, I said it.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-14 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
i don't think a judge would be able to separate a child from their mother unless there was a really good case that the parent was abusive.

the fact that some of the people on the show and on set have come out and talked about the mother's behaviour make me inclined to believe her.

making up a story about an abusive mother and getting judges and lawyers involved just to hang out with your boyfriend seems more far fetched to me.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-15 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Pretty sure that in some states, if the charge is serious enough, the minor will be taken out of the home while an investigation is going on but then may be returned if nothing untoward shows up. Because how shitty would it be if somebody said "I'm being abused," and the authorities said "OK, hang around there and maybe be abused some more while we look into it" and then that person winds up dead or something.

But no clue of California is one of those states.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-15 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't it illegal for an 18 year old (considered and adult) to have sex with a 14 year old (considered a child)?

(Anonymous) 2012-11-15 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Depends on where you are, I think. Someone mentioned California, in which case the answer is "hell yes".

For someone to go that far with accusations something must be wrong.

And as someone who lived with an emotional abusive step parent and no one believed me, because she was so nice, so I had to be attention seeking. I always believe people when they say their parents abuse them...

(Anonymous) 2012-11-15 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Given that Ariel's sister was also removed from the household when she was 12 due to abuse, I'm leaning more towards believing that the mother is abusive. It was twenty years apart and the same abuse allegations, but different siblings? The cast of Modern Life has gone on record as saying that the mother did things like smack her (but made sure to check that she didn't bruise), verbally berate her and intentionally dressed her in a more adult/sexy manner because she (the mom) didn't like that Ariel was playing a nerdy role.

Oh and also severally restrict her diet including denying her food. Not many of the main cast noticed, but some background crew have gone on record as stating they'd been planning on trying to sneak sandwiches to Ariel because her mom denied her food so often...

So yeah. My two cents.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-15 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
dressed her in a more adult/sexy manner because she (the mom) didn't like that Ariel was playing a nerdy role.

Hence the 18 year-old boyfriend she wants to have sex with? Can't have it both ways, mom!

(Anonymous) 2012-11-15 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Didn't she make it up because her mom wouldn't let her hook up with her adult boyfriend?

(Anonymous) 2012-11-15 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
Given that her older sister was removed from the home years prior as a result of abuse, and that co-workers have claimed to have witnessed her being abused...I think that might not actually be the case.

Well, that's an interesting twist on the RPF idea. (I was waiting for some shit to go down on the set, since I'm always suspicious when shows are REALLY popular and everyone on set gets along so well and everything is perfect; I always assume there has to be some hidden weirdness there. This I did not see coming, however.)

Yeah, it's kinda creepy that you think her real-life family problems should be made into fanfiction so that you feel better, but you mean it well.

OP

(Anonymous) 2012-11-15 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Uh...not sure at all where you're getting "feeling better" nonsense out of this secret? I'd like the RPF because it's a good story, not because it would make me "feel better" about some imaginary thing you've dreamed up for me.

I thought it was because you felt bad for her as a person and thought that making up some stories about there being supportive people in her life would make you feel better.

But no,my bad, your response to hearing about a possibly abused teen is "boy that sounds like an interesting story." I take back the last sentence of my earlier post.

Then you're right in feeling gross because looking at her situation and immediately thinking-- no, wishing that it would be turned into entertainment for you is exploitative.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2012-11-15 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
...that actually is pretty gross.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-15 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
It IS kind of weird of you. Can't you just wish to see news about their support (which they seem to be showing her) instead of wanting to read a make-believe version that only makes you feel better?

OP

(Anonymous) 2012-11-15 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
As I said to visp above you, I'm not sure at all where you're getting "feeling better" nonsense out of this secret? I'd like the RPF because it's a good story (that I hope is also a reality for AW), not because it would make me "feel better" about some imaginary thing you've dreamed up for me.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2012-11-15 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, that's worse then. Now you just want entertainment out of someone else's problems.

I know you said you hate rpf, but you jumped right into their mentality of "it's in the tabloids therefore I own it/them". That it's a 'good story' doesn't mean it's right that you want someone to take the girl herself and treat her as a character to play out some hurt/comfort fantasy.

I sort of half heard about this shit on the way to work the other day, and I was like "holy shit wtf." I don't even watch the show, and I'm like "this poor girl."

I think it's understandable, man. Girl's been through some crazy shit and you want to see her have a nice, happy, normal life. That's cool.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-15 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
idgaf about her but this show seriously sucks
