I don't see why this "ruins" you. Wanting to see morality, and people, as strictly black and white can be appealing for a lot of people, but it's not realistic. Being able to see wrongdoers as human is a good thing, as long as recognizing them as human doesn't lead you to sympathize with them when they don't deserve sympathy.

There are some horrible people out there, and it's important to recognize how horrible they are. But most people have more depth to them than simply "Evil!"

This. Also, recognizing that people may become "evil" for reasons can ideally help prevent it. Not always, maybe even not often, but still.
