Oh darn. That rules me out. ]:

In a "real world" zombie invasion, I would be toast. But if I had to live in "movie type" zombification, I have two options: die first, or be the Sole Survivor/Final Girl type.

Hmm I'm pretty good at holing myself up in my room and having no human contact for days on end. I might make it as long as I have internet. I'll just out wait the zombies until they all rot away.

I, too, would totally fucking die in both real and movie Zombie Apocalypses. I would also die in any other given horror movie. Like, the first one to go. The one that dies so that everyone can go go "OH SHIT SOMETHING BAD'S HAPPENING".

It's okay, though. I've come to terms with my role as the redshirt. But the rest of you guys had better save my cats.

Seriously. I'll come back in the last thirty seconds as a jumpscare or something if you don't.

i have that same criteria for people i date. if rick grimes were a real person i'd be on that so fast he'd mistake me for a walker and stab me right in the head

Haha, what a way to go. Could be worse though...you could be eaten.

I agree. Also, Rick has been insanely pretty this season. I sometimes look half dead and I have regular baths and don't have to deal with the stress of a zombie apocalypse. I don't get it and it's not fair.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-15 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Can't like them at all? That's pretty narrow. Oddly so, even. I see why this is a secret.

As a criteria for which characters you like it isn't bad...

(Anonymous) 2012-11-15 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Now you've got me evaluating the zombie apocalypse survival skills of my favorite characters.

[personal profile] adlanth 2012-11-16 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Same. I think it's a silly reason to like or dislike a character, but yeah.

So..I'm not a big fan of zombie stuff, I have never watched or read anything involving zombie apocalypses of my own accord and never to the end. But at this point, with all of the secrets about zombies I occasionally see, I just have to ask.. What does "surviving" it means? Is there usually a point in this kind of series where people stop becoming zombies and those who already are zombies are cured or die off and it all goes back to normal? And the heroes just have to last until then? Or does surviving it means surviving the initial period where there's zombies at every corner and no one knows what to do and it's a bloodbath? Because I really don't see how anyone can actually survive a zombie apocalypse in a world where the zombies aren't cured and life does not resume as normal.

you gotta be realistic though, most of us would die pretty quickly in the event of a zombie apocalypse. and think about it, the kind of people who WOULD survive are the kind of people that national geographic makes documentaries about

You gotta be specific about what type of zombies if you're doing that, OP.

Are we talking slow-moving classic type zombies, or Resident Evil bullshit zombies? What's the infection rate and vector? (Is it even a disease, or is it some kind of curse?) Is it possible for a character who has some sort of other innate trait (i.e. vampire, werewolf, etc.) to be immune to zombification? How do you best take out these theoretical zombies? Can they swim? (If we're maintaining any realism at all, the answer should be 'no'.) Are they in any way intelligent? Would a cure require the bodies to be destroyed regardless of when they were infected even if they're alive still? Can people who are alive be turned right away when infected or do they have to die first? Are all the people who were ever buried rising from the dead or is there a time limit/only the recently dead type thing?

...I posted in another thread today that I overanalyze things, right?

While I think that argument can be used for how or why you like a certain character, maybe even more than another... but to not be able to simply like a character because of such an arbitrary thing is sad. There are a lot of decent characters you will never get to know. They are fantastic, and smart, and brave, and so many other things. They just lack the particular skills to survive a zombie apocalypse.

Then again, if you really want to use that as a judge for whether you like a character I won't stop you. You do get to enjoy media however you want as long as it's not harmful to others. So as long as you're not expecting everyone else to have this view you're technically okay. I'll feel sad you're missing out but it's your choice and you can do what you want. Besides, what should you care what I think? I'm just a random person on the internet.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-16 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
Well, if you watch a lot of fantasy and sci-fi, you're golden. I mean, I think magic, werewolves, and vampires trump zombies and most sci-fi has some pretty cool technology (weapons or otherwise) that could work against zombies. But for a less fantastical series, how do you decide? From the zombie movies I've watched, some characters survive through quick-thinking, some through stubborness, some through a certain amount of physical strength and/or endurance, and some through sheer luck. I could probably pick out certain sterotypes that might survive, but honestly, in the zombie movies, they usually kill off (or zombify) one of the ones you think will survive, for drama and suspense, and you can't be sure which one.

Ouch! That's a little harsh in my book. Of course, I judge characters on whether or not can they evade bullet fights and win/lose honorably...

So I guess to each his/her own, then.

I can't say that's worthy of being the deciding factor in my liking/not liking a character, but I'm having fun going through a mental list of my favorite characters for potential zombie apocalypse survivability rn, so thanks for that. :3

This kinda reminds me of that secret from a while back where the OP was sorting their favorite characters into hogwarts houses or something. Fun to think about.

I don't think I'd want the characters I like to survive one, actually

(Anonymous) 2012-11-16 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously, that would be a pretty miserable life to lead. I'd prefer they went out with fire and glory.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-16 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
This secret just really reminds me how fucking sick of zombie anything I am and think it's just bullshit you use this as a deciding factor.
