Agreed. If only ff.net and LJ had something like the Kudos option. I get so much more feedback since moving to AO3 than I ever did on ff.net or LJ, and most of it is kudos (which I love and am very grateful for).

On ff.net, I've got some stories with tens of thousands of hits and a handfull of reviews. I don't think I'm entitled to reviews, but it is really depressing that a fic attracts so many hits and so little feedback. Are the hits from spambots looking for a nesting site? Are they from people who read the first line and think it's shit? I don't know, but I do get PMs every so often from people saying they've read all my stories and really enjoyed them, and they've never commented before. Maybe if there was a way for people on ff.net to say they liked the fic without committing to favouriting it or having to find something to say about it, they might feel like they can leave some feedback on the stories, and I wouldn't end up as disappointed by the hits to reviews ratio.

Thiiiiis. So much. I get very few comments on AO3, but I don't really mind, because I do get a lot of kudos, and I really don't need flowery verbose detailed praise even on the 100,000+ word stuff. It's just nice to know someone liked it enough to click that button that says they liked it.

Except then some people complain *at length* about how rude it is for people to fave or kudo something without commenting on it.

So people don't do anything.

Eh, sure, it may not be one person, but I still thing they have a valid point. When you leave kudos, best case scenario, you make someone's day. Most people probably appreciate getting them. If someone doesn't appreciate it, well, that's their problem. It's not like you've expended a lot of energy by leaving a kudos. Certainly not more than you expended reading the fic. So you get the satisfaction of trying to be nice, and they get nothing, because they don't see it for what it is.
