Is my self-esteem just perilously low? Because if I got that kind of reader/commenter ratio (without kudos) I would just assume that my fic suuuuucked and like, go into a shame spiral about it.

Same, anon. I *have* done that shame spiral liek woah, though only usually after no reviews at all. (I write rarepairs in a dying fandom. Kind of inevitable, but still.)

I actually wish I could quit fanfiction, because the effect the shame spiral has on my mood is out of all proportion for a hobby.

This, seriously. I write serious fic in a fandom that tends to prefer fluff, so I'm doing it to myself, but the shame spiral is very real. Fanfic, I wish I knew how to quit you!
