I am afraid to go to work tomorrow

(Anonymous) 2012-11-18 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
bc my coworkers and I kind of turned my boss in (we are assistants in a preschool and she's the teacher) to the director because she has been abusing the kids (shaking them, screaming in their faces, dragging them around by their arms, etc) and I know she got called in to a meeting about it on Friday but I don't know if she really got fired or what. If she's there tomorrow... I'm sick thinking about it D: I know I did what needed to be done but I am still worried sick.

You rock for turning her in! Just remember that you are in the right here.

If she shows up after exhibiting that kind of behavior and acts at all aggressive to any of you, do not hesitate to call the cops. You know she has a violent nature and would be totally justified in having her arrested if she scares you.

This. It's totally understandable to be worried in your situation, but you did a lovely thing and you should be proud of it. Good on you, anon!

You are an awesome human being for actually speaking up about this and turning her in! Take deep breathes, try to be calm and cool and remind yourself that she is the scum and you are the hero in this story. Good luck!

if i were in your place i would probably be worried/nervous too, but your job really is to care for the children, and if the teacher is abusing the kids then what you guys did is the best thing for the kids. i hope it goes well for you guys tomorrow!

If you're nervous, or doubting yourself, or feeling miserable about it at any point, just think about the kids. Remember just one incident you know about and remember the kid in that case. That'll help you remember the issue is bigger than the unpleasantness of the moment, and could never be classed as any kind of personal vendetta. You don't mistreat kids. End of.

Good luck!

Wow, good for you. I hope she gets canned and jailed.

Seconding the "calling the cops" advice. Have your phone with you. Might it help to contact one of the administrators beforehand to see what happened and tell them your concerns and that you want to feel safe at your job?

Being worried is a reasonable thing to feel, but you all did the right thing. Shaking and dragging children is never okay.

I understand being nervous in that situation but remember -- you definitely did the right thing. Not only should she be fired, but in my opinion she should be prosecuted for the physical abuse (dragging kids around by the arms and such).

Anon, i applaud you for doing the right thing.
There are others who may turn a blind eye to that sort of thing- but by turning her in, you protected those kids.
I wish I had my applause gif, because you deserve all the medals.

Hold your head high, anon, because you did the right thing. Given the unprofessional, abusive behaviour she's exhibited, she has NO right to give you a hard time. Stick close with your coworker.

I admire you for doing the right thing. I hope she did get fired. At my job (group home) she definitely would be out on her ass.

Boarding the "call the cops" bandwagon here, you did the right thing. Deep breaths recommended, and good food optional. :)

You did the right thing. I don't know if your school has security (kind of doubt it for preschool) but have a number on hand to call if things get ugly. If it's just awkward... well, she did wrong, that is your shield.

Hopefully, she won't be there at all.

Just remember how much you rock for standing up for the kids.

That's a scary situation to be in, but at least you did what was right rather than ignoring it. Even if she's still there, hopefully her ire will no longer be aimed at the kids? Perhaps if she is returning she'll be just as afraid to return to work because you and your coworkers know about it and she's the one who is going to need to step carefully.

Are they even able to just drop her ASAP or do they need to wait a few weeks for her to leave, or pay her out?

It's awesome that you and yours didn't ignore the situation. You're really awesome OP.

You and your coworkers did the right thing for those kids, that's what's most important. There needs to be more people willing to stand up and take action like that.
