I tend to view hit counts on AO3 in the same way I view kudos or comments. Did everybody that click on my fic finish it or enjoy it? Probably not, but it makes me feel warm inside to see the hit count on a story rise. :)

+1. Hit counts make me feel nice, too. Especially since it sometimes means that someone thought it worthy of reading more than once. I think people should feel the love from hit counts too.

THIS.

I know I don't leave comments for every fic I read, so while comments are nice seeing views and kudos rise makes me feel good enough.

I don't always comment either, especially if the fic is one of those archives you have to join to be able to send feedback.

Yeah, I've been doing that recently. I especially like FF.Net's stats since they will show you how many people read each chapter of a multi-parter, which gives you a good idea of how many current readers you have, since it's unlikely someone will read chapter 5 when they haven't read 1-4.

Though getting a comment/review/kudos is, IMO, an even better feeling than seeing the hit count go up.

That is a cool stat feature. I don't go to FF.Net anymore because I got a virus from that site twice within just a few months. :(

I completely agree that comments and what-not hit the sweet spot much harder than a hit count. :)
