Haven't we had all this before? Readers aren't duty-bound to leave reviews, writers aren't duty-bound to carry on writing fandoms or pairings or WIPs where they're getting no interest. Everyone knows this; and everyone also knows that a) if nobody reviews, most writers will eventually stops writing and b) if nobody writes, would-be readers end up on f!s posting about 'why does nobody ship this? :('

Personally, I'm trying to sustain a rarepair in a small fandom by seconding every prompt and reviewing every fic that comes along in it, as well as writing my own fic. Because I know from personal experience that while 'asspats' are one thing, the difference between one review and no reviews is seriously depressing for anything you've put your time, heart and soul into.

Discovery of the day: I really, really hate the word 'asspats'.

This.
+1

Rare pair sucks! *le sigh* I know that all too well.. this one review makes you think: MAYBE I HAVE A CHANCE TO MAKE PEOPLE SHIP THEM! Even when it's only this one.

Asspats bother me too because I always initially parse it as expats so I end up thinking about ass patriots.

LOL, that's actually a pretty cool interpretation. I'm afraid I always parse it as 'action of creepy sexual harrassment', which makes reading the word in context a slightly confusing experience.
