Context?

(also, that person looks a little scary...)

Character pictured is the main character guy the main girl character meets. He cross dresses so much he has some characters fooled thinking he's a guy.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-28 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, I see! Thank you.

Ahhh I meant he's got some people fooled thinking he's a girl! Sorry bout that.

Femslash is so darling and I welcome anyone with open arms who enjoys it. The fanbase is so small!
brightblueink: Sasame from the manga version of Pretear wearing glasses and looking mischievous. (delicious blond megame Sasame)

[personal profile] brightblueink 2012-11-28 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Have you read Sasameki Koto? I've only tried the first few volumes of that, but the main couple in that is somewhat similar in personality to the main couple in Princess Jellyfish, but it's a girl's love comic.

This has impending doom written all over it.

Only if you invite it! Stay calm, everybody, stay calm.

Reading this secret made me realize that it was the reason I love the crossdressing trope in the Sherlock fandom so much. I have for some reason unknown even to me connected him with Sherlock in my head. :| Whut self?

(Anonymous) 2012-11-29 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
I kind of agree, but only in the sense that I am tired of the main female protagonist having two male love interests, and male characters always falling for the female protagonist. Princess Jellyfish doesn't play these ideas straight up, but the fact still stands.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-29 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
It sounds like most of the main cast besides him are female anyway...?

I for one am not going to complain about crossdressing characters who aren't treated as a punchline (here's me getting my hopes up lol)

[personal profile] deadtree 2012-11-29 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
most of the main cast IS female, and his crossdressing is definitely not a punchline. The series in general is smart and mature in so many ways that anime usually isn't (media in general, actually) that it might just blow your mind.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-29 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
Er...I wouldn't say it deserves that much praise. Most of the female side cast is made up of one-dimensional gag characters with little development or depth.

It tries to make the protagonist into a super nerdy weirdo, but she's just another case of Hollywood Homely.

Not to mention the romance. The protagonist hugs a guy she barely knows in an aquarium once and suddenly she's falling all over herself for him? Sorry, I just didn't find anything believable about the relationships in the show.

Maybe the manga is different but I wouldn't know.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-29 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Yep! Besides Kuranosuke, the one pictured here, and his brother, Shuu, the rest of the main characters are female. They are some fantastic male side characters, however.

And definitely agreeing on that point! I also enjoy how the Amars' interests are portrayed.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-29 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
Holy shit

I realize that kuronosuke isn't trans* but your secret still implies that the only real girls are cis girls. I generally don't go all "social justice" on people but seriously, fuck you. There's no reason for this transphobic bullshit.

(Slightly related: I'm still hoping that kuronosuke will end up coming out as trans*)

(Anonymous) 2012-11-29 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
Don't be ridiculous. Kuranosuke doesn't think of himself as a girl, so he's not a real girl. No where did OP even mention trans* issues, much less imply trans girls aren't real girls.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-29 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
DA.
The phrasing of "real girls" tends to call up real = cis for a lot of people, though. The phrase in general is suspect, even when trans issues aren't involved, basically. It might not be what the OP intended, but it kind of rubbed me the wrong way too...

By saying the whole quip about "real girls," they implied all of that :C Like I said, I don't really like to say this sort of thing, but it really rubbed me the wrong way.

(Anonymous) 2012-11-29 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, so it's not just me in that boat? I've hoped that for a while, but I am especially now. It'd be a hell of a lot more interesting than this "presenting as male = possible lover to Tsukimi" vs "presenting as female = just friends" stuff the recent chapters have been doing, anyways...

(Anonymous) 2012-11-29 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'd love to see them in a relationship with kuronosuke out as a trans*woman. I think it's because it reflects a previous relationship I had, but I love relationships between girls where one is mtf.

OP

(Anonymous) 2012-11-29 10:07 am (UTC)(link)
You're being ridiculous. Nowhere did I say he wouldn't have been a real girl if he hadn't simply identified as one, your whole point is stupid. My secret implies that men who identify as men but cross-dress are not real girls, everything else you pull out of your arse. You just want to ruffle your feathers and yet claim you don't go social justice on people, whatever. No skin off my nose.

Am I the only one simply baffled that this series managed to annoy anyone? It was so good!

(Anonymous) 2012-11-29 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
Nope! It's definitely among favorite, along fairly limited, anime.
