Yeah, she's been flanderized to hell and back for a while now.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-03 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
And went and read this:

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Flanderization

..and I'm like, how do people ever fucking escape this place? And when there are that many ultra-specific tropes, then have we perhaps lost the meaning of the word "trope?"

You are so not alone.

Also I still miss Zack! He was awesome! And the Brennan who didn't want children and loved science. I loved her!

I guess the real question is why on earth am I still watching this show?

[personal profile] elephantinegrace 2012-12-03 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I'm watching this show because Sweets is cute, and I'm still really hoping that Zack shows up again.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-02 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
She grated on my nerves from the beginning and was the sole reason I could never get into this show.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-02 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Same.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-02 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Ditto. The character was irritating from the start and the more time went on, the worse it got.

I'm just so frustrated with how they've written her this season. Considering her characterization and Booth's, I had hopes that the show was not going to force them into gender roles and was going to have booth be the more nurturing parent and the one who watched her more. And yet, no, they had to make Brennan into the stereotypical mother, which doesn't fit her at all.

People who aren't that nurturing can be parents. But being a mother doesn't automatically change someone's personality that much. And considering that Booth already was the perfect person for that sort of thing, why did they have to change Brennan to fit the stereotypes?

I don't get what they are doing with this show...

Don't you understand even if fathers are loving they still can't do more than 30% of the parenting. It would go against nature!

I'm still pissed about the fact that Booth refused to let Brennan pay for a house last season. Had it been the other way around, people would be calling Brennan an idiot for not letting her man pay for a better house.

She has steadily become more annoying over the last several seasons, but for me, she has still not caught up to Booth.

But then I hate Booth.

*high fives*

Yeah, I hate Booth, too...that's why I've only ever been able to stand watching the show sporadically.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-02 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I never really understood why people were so into this show in the first place. ALL the characters are annoying in some way, shape or form.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-02 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I stopped watching this show when the kid was born. So sick of baby storylines that turn interesting female characters into stereotypical mothers. From what I've heard I'm not missing anything good.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-02 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Same anon.

For clarification, I think that typical mothers CAN be interesting characters. But I hate it when a character who does not fit this type is changed completely just because she has a baby.

If by "Brennan" you mean "every character on the show" and by "lately" you mean "for the past three seasons", then I agree with you

All my rage tbh that they took an intelligent, independent female and turned her into a mombie. Booth is so disgustingly overbearing too. I hate it so much.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-02 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
mombie

I have never heard that term before, but man, IT FITS SO MUCH.

Some of these comments are just...wtf inducing here. Intelligent and independent women can't be moms apparently.

B/

Anywho, I don't see her changed all that much, though I do wish the writers would have her stand up to Booth a little more on some of his shit. Like the house thing. And her cooking thing cause she wanted to do it every now and then. Sheesh.
philstar22: (Default)

[personal profile] philstar22 2012-12-03 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
No. But intelligent and independent women are still intelligent and independent women after having kids. The issue isn't that Brennan had a child. The issue is that her personality has changed drastically to force her into stereotypes that do not suit her character.

Someone's a sensitive snowflake, I see.

No, it's not about whether intelligent and independent women can or can't be mothers. They obviously can and should if they want to. It's about twisting a fictional character into someone who she never before was. It's bad writing and characterization. Character development is damn important if you want your viewers to believe that character X is still X instead of them going "who the hell is this and what has she done to X". Not to mention, if the whole premise is an intelligent woman doing intelligent work at work, the audience has every right to be disappointed when the show turns into a (an intelligent, not that it's imporant anymore) mom taking care of her baby.

I've disliked both Booth and Brennen since before they finally got together. The whole "will they, won't they" thing got old in by the fourth season. I only really watch for the side characters like Sweets, Hodgins, and Angela.
