Why should I "forgive" someone who votes for Romney and with that against gay and women rights?

(Anonymous) 2012-12-02 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Some people just liked Romney's views on the economy better. I have a friend who was pissed with Romney because of the stuff he said about women's/gay rights, but at the end of the day, she felt Obama was hurting the economy and voted for Romney.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-02 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
A lot of people were also very upset with Obama for signing the NDAA into law.

This election really, really sucked.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-02 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
So your friend is just stupid and easily swayed by buzzwords and not misogynystic and homophobic? You should get new friends.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-02 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
So Obama is perfect and has done everything perfectly since he was elected and anyone who thinks he's done some things wrong is stupid and easily swayed?

(Anonymous) 2012-12-03 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
If they were convinced by Romney's lack of an economic plan? Pretty much.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-03 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
Don't avoid the question. Regardless of one's feelings on Romney, is it stupid for one to dislike Obama or to think that he has done some things wrong?

(Anonymous) 2012-12-03 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
No. It IS stupid to vote for someone worse though. Like cutting off hour nose to spite someone tor being a human being.

I have no problem with third party voters.

Like cutting off hour nose to spite someone tor being a human being.

...these are the most amazing typos ever.

Please explain how Romney was better for the economy. Please explain what he was even suggesting. Last time someone asked on here what this magical tax plan was the best answer was a ramble about how someone's dad wasn't racist because he liked it when Romney said the words "tax and spending cuts". No really they straight up said he just like it when Romney said the words.

lol you totally missed the point of my comment. I'm definitely not a Romney supporter nor did I vote for him.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-02 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
So if some time goes by, and she comes out and says, "wow, I can't believe I voted for Romney! That was a huge mistake! I will never again vote for someone with such a platform," you will not forgive her?

Yeah, no. I wouldn't vote for a Republican president in a million years, but wow, no. The president is not a monarch and an election is not a moral referendum -- a lot of people hate Romney's social platform but voted for him anyway because they assumed that he will be able to help the economy in the way they want, and at the same time assumed he won't be able to magically set women's and gay rights back a hundred years.

Now, whether they're right about that assumption or not is fairly irrelevant, since most people aren't political experts.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-02 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
We're not dealing with a logical person, here. We're dealing with one of those lovely folks who has given completely into his/her cognitive illusions and who thinks that his/her party can do no wrong and that everyone on the other side is stupid and/or evil.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-03 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
You shouldn't vote at all if you only vote party lines.

The problem with the two-party system is that you basically have to vote party lines. I'm not saying that automatically voting for a Democratic candidate because s/he's a Democrat is a good thing; I'm saying that Democrats tend to be more liberal and Republicans tend to be more conservative, so if you're more liberal, you're probably going to vote Democrat. Not to mention that all these liberal or conservative policies are tied in one another so that if one votes to save Planned Parenthood, one then also has to vote for the tax increase to fund it.

Teal deer says, "Economic and social issues don't exist in a vacuum."

I hate the two-party system with a passion.

I voted libertarian this year partly just to make a statement.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-03 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
And yet I'm willing to bet you would never vote third party because it's a "wasted vote."

(Anonymous) 2012-12-03 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Because that's not the only reason people voted for Romney.

For a lot of people, voting for the candidate who in their opinion was the lesser of two evils was a thing, and the state of the economy was pretty darn important; they didn't have to necessarily agree with every single one of his views, they only had to believe that he could do a better job than the other guy. Voting for Romney isn't some immortal sin that can never be forgiven.

Do you really vehemently hate nearly half the country and think they have personally wronged you somehow?

Something tells me you take politics a little too personally

(Anonymous) 2012-12-03 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
THE PERSONAL IS POLITICAL. THE PERSONAL IS POLITICAL. THE PERSONAL IS POLITICAL.

I think what insanenoodlyguy meant was that this stupid quote from MJH came from years ago and today she seems to have grown up a little. That said, SJW types wouldn't care about the latter, only the former.
