Who else is over Christmas?
And this is coming from a Catholic.
I walked into a Whole Foods today and instead of Christmas music playing, they had KISS playing. Don't even like KISS but I wanted to have the babies of who ever set that store's music out of appreciation.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-11 12:16 am (UTC)(link)Why can't it be more like Thanksgiving? I like Thanksgiving. It's great. It's autumnal, and you eat a ton of food, and you watch football, and you hang out with your family, and it lasts a day, and there's no omnipresent advertisements for it. Why can't we have that for Christmas gol dangit

Think of us, poor Christians who are sick of Christmas!
/love the irony, by the way

(Anonymous) 2012-12-11 12:29 am (UTC)(link)Anything else, I can successfully ignore (now that I don't work in retail; I have 100% sympathy for any retail workers who hate Christmas).

Re: Who else is over Christmas?
Then I started working full time and Christmas is now just a nice mini vacation of me and movies at home. I tend to avoid going out except at the earliest or latest hours, so I avoid the overcraziness of Christmas.
Re: Who else is over Christmas?
That being said, I wish the hype wouldn't start until after the beginning December. By the time Christmas actually rolls around, it's lost half it's charm.
Re: Who else is over Christmas?
1) to turn 23, not 30
2) my grandpa back
3) the new Batman movie
Other than that I don't give a damn anymore.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-11 12:58 am (UTC)(link)I just keep it to myself unless I find a kindred spirit like you, because otherwise I get dogpiled with "omg how could you not like christmas?" and other trite platitudes about how I just need to get in the spirit and all traditions are good and blah blah blah. No, fuck you and go to hell, I don't want to have all these forced trappings of sentimentality thrown on me for two months every year. And don't even get me started on how charity seems to only apply at christmas when people are starving, homeless, and in terrible straits 365 days of the year.

Don't get me wrong, I like some aspects of it, like actually GIVING gifts (even if the shopping part sucks), and ODing on peppermint mochas at Starbucks. But for the most part, I'd rather ff to the 26th.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-11 01:58 am (UTC)(link)We have the tree up now though. :D It makes me happy. And chocolates make me happy. And spending time with family makes me happy. That's the way I see Christmas.
Re: Who else is over Christmas?
I tell people I don't celebrate because I'm not Christian, but really it just gives me shitty memories. All the music does is remind me. Even now that I'm with people who do acknowledge and celebrate my birthday, it just bugs me.

(Anonymous) 2012-12-11 05:08 am (UTC)(link)I'd trade this Sept-Dec glut of commercialism for the old fashioned 12 day romp any day.

Way way too much.
Also I hate fretting over what to buy people and all the money to spend on presents. Because the alternative is people being frowny and annoyed with me.

Re: Who else is over Christmas?
I'm not too fond of Christmas music to begin with, and working in retail, I've gotten really sick of it. They play the same songs over and over again! And all the different covers either sound the same, or people try to make theirs different in ways that don't work at all.
