I'm totally cool with them nullifying it. Some of the stuff I've read/heard about was just plain awful. It was messy, unnecessary, and pretty boring.

I think it's ridiculous to expect Disney to try and adapt all that crap. Rather than putting new, fresh, legitimately GOOD talent with new ideas--actual filmmakers who grew up loving Star Wars--they should adapt the work of some two-bit fanfic author?

The EU won't disappear from existence. I'd rather them have the power to make an entirely new canon, a fresh one, that's not mired in the decades of inconsistent crap from the books and comics.

Also it will mean that Revan isn't canon male anymore hahahhahaha

It's not like they're going to do anything that overwrites the Old Republic stuff - I mean, I assume that nothing they do with the new movies is going to touch stuff from that period at all, really. So it's as canon as it ever was.

Seriously, Revan not being canon male anymore would be FANTASTIC. (Frankly, I think she ought to go back Dark Side, too, because COME ON THE GODDAMN JEDI BRAINWASHED HER HELLLLLO, but I've accepted that's a pipe dream since apparently Revan Must Be A Hero.)

Unfortunately, like the other commenter said, they're unlikely to change that, especially with Revan being presented as male in the SWTOR game. :/

If it means the erasure of Mara Jade and Luke's son being a domestic abuser/abusive boyfriend, along with Chewie's death, I am all for it.

(Then again, I never liked the post-ROTJ EU anyways, so... I'm biased)

Yeah, I figure they'll have to go fresh, which could be interesting (although then you get a ton of ~the movies are the only canon~ type people which make my EU-loving eyeball twitch since a lot of Star Wars canon is fluid for marketing purposes or George Lucas's changed mind) -- but, but, part of me is also like MARA JADEEEEEEEEEEEE

I enjoyed the NJO mostly, except for Chewie and Anakin Solo sadness, but fuck the Legacy of the Force.

I would most enjoy the X-Wing Series being adapted though. Between Rogue and Wraith Squadrons, those books made my young sci-fi reading life.

Ahaha have I been making secrets in my sleep? I used to be a giant Star Wars EU nerd--even the really crappy stuff. I got, IDK, two books into New Jedi Order and went "fuck this, this is way too gratuitously grim and wretched" and got into Les Misérables fandom instead.

I do find it weird, though, that some fandoms are still having "what is/isn't canon?" and/or "our EU is gonna get jossed, it's the end of the world as we know it!" angst. I mean, surely at least half of the large fandoms have multiple canons, if only in the form of original canon and a movie adaptation/a primary canon and an EU/an original series and a reboot? It's a big ball of wibbly-wobbly canony-fanony stuff; sit back, take whatever extras you like, and reflect that whatever happens, your ball of canonicitiness probably makes more sense than the Doctor Who fandom's.

I used to love the EU, but gave up after the death of Anakin Solo. He had become the only interesting character by that point, so there was no use continuing with the series once he was gone. If they can reboot the whole thing I might be willing to give it a new try.

... I'm so far in denial that it isn't even funny at this point, but seriously, I can't stand the idea of their invalidating the EU.

Because I can't believe the EU is nominally canon if they contradict any part of it (because it's all the same class canon, so ...), and destroying the X-Wing books would legit make me fucking sob.

I handmade Wes and Wedge t-shirts in my youth. My room is decorated with posters of young!Obi, Wedge, Wes, Hobbie, and Tycho. I've had a padawan braid for going on six years now.
I will cry if Disney destroys my childhood, is what I'm saying.

I think they'll probably create a new storyline far apart from the EU. There might be some contradictions that arise, but they're not stupid enough to mess with what fans know and love -that- much.

I love how some people are so hung up on this you'd think Disney was personally going to go to their houses, confiscate their books, and magically erase their memory.

The EU hasn't been any good since 2005. I actually looked at a list of everything released since then and only needed one hand to count the things I actually enjoyed. I do admit to a certain fondness for the NJO, but I'm certainly more than willing to sacrifice it to lose all the shit that came after. I mean, come on! A chance to start fresh without twenty years of disjointed baggage? That's what I call an adventure.

I never could get into the New Jedi Order stuff...most of the writers from that time were, unfortunately to me, kind of shitty writers.

Plus, I was way more invested in Obi-Wan and The Clone Wars, so I enjoy novels dealing with him and a few other characters from the era before the empire's take over.

Trying to get myself into the SWTOR novels though. But my book reading streaks are few an far between these days.

But anywho, I'd like to see the canon re-explored and redone. For new ideas and to see the fanbois cry.
